cops

I've noticed a lot of cops are looking for things like that. I got pulled over twice in one week in january. The cop that pulled me over first, asked me if I knew why he pulled me over. I simply said no. He took my registration and license (gave me back the proof of insurance) to his car. Comes back out 20 mins. later and tells me that my tint is too dark, and that he's giving me a warning. ... Second time I got pulled over that week was a lot better than the last time. He thought my car was a cavalier, lol. Asked for license, registration and insurance. After he saw them, he gave them back on the spot and told me to take it easy.... I think a lot of the cop's pull me over cuz they see some young guy cruisin in a nice car, and they want to see what I'm up to. It's ok if they don't give tickets, but you get that sick feeling inside when someone you know drives-by staring at you, as your pulled over

So it's not just me! I get the same thing thought it was just me. Lately I've seen alot speed traps on the QEW hamilton area. I got pinched a couple years ago with a radar detector this time i'm going too hide it a little better. They (OPP) hide and then pick u out of a hundred cars going the same speed & give u the ticket. I'm not an agressive driver so I feel wronged when i get a ticket for going with the flow.

"Be forewarned, Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick are the only provinces where radar detectors are legal. Everywhere else in Canada, such devices are illegal and will be confiscated by the police if they see them in your vehicle. You do not have to be using a radar detector to be fined; it is even illegal to have one in your possession. The police may also give you a fine which can be as much as $1,000 if the detector is anywhere in your car."

The police have radar detector detectors.. So it doesn't really matter if you hide it or not.. You just need to be using it and they can tell if the car has one or not.. And btw.. Our Country is just like the US... Just cause it is Canada doesnt mean they are illegal everywhere in Canada.. Such goes for the US.. I travel the US alot and there is alot of states that they are illegal to use as well.. Go over to New York State and you can't use them there either..

I went through a ride program one day and got stuck there while the OPP played 21 questions and checked out my car. I think he was both interested in the car and wanted to make sure it was mine since he was asking questions like where I bought it, etc and backed up, walked from front to back and complimented it time and time again. Now if only I'd stop getting dirty looks from every cop that goes by me because of my tint...they can guage it if they want (though I'd prefer to not have to go through the process) it's not illegal last time I checked .

Sometimes I wonder if it would almost be worth it to just get the detector. I got nailed this past saturday by an unmarked cruiser for doing 83 in a 50 less than a kilometer from where the 50 turns in to 80 it turned out to be a community safety zone so the fine was doubled to $305, personally I'd take a $270 ticket for a radar detector if they manage to catch you with it over a 305 fine plus increased insurance!

a couple years back when my brother and I went thru Canada at Windsor they seen it (customs) and made us take it out and they placed it behind his tire and asked for him to run it over, if we didn't we got stuck in customs for several hours for questioning. It was bad.. he lost $400 that day ($300 for the detector he only had for a week) and $100 for a fine.

What a bunch of BS

Quebec is the worst place in the world.. My friend got pulled over and the cop asked him for his express view. Cop even knew what kind! Gave him two tickets totalling 1200 dollars because he was speeding to doing 161 in a 100 zone. He is going to court now.

Ontario they have the right to confiscate it but they dont have to compared to quebec they must confiscate. I know because ive asked a cop.

Well, Canada is another country with it's own set of rules and laws. That's what happens when you assume that American laws apply to you, when you are visiting another country.

I live in New Brunswick, they are illegal here too. My friend got caught with one and the cop made him run it over with his truck or else the cop said he would fine him.

a lot of radar detectors are becoming useless anyway...now with the more upscale and funded departments using more and more laser radar its next to impossible to detect until they actually pull the trigger. Even then i heard the laser radar detectors are hit and miss.
