Manitoba SS 2013
tank = near indestructible
everyone having aftermarket makes them boring...
I like the clean looks netted from stock wheels...
Rarely do I really like aftermarket wheels - because they always seem ever so slightly disjointed/out of place on a car which from the factory just seems to flow "right"...

Tank = Heavy Ass Motha F*&^ers! These drag wheels are about 4-5 lbs lighter then stock which doesn't seem like much but the amount of equal rotational mass that is removed is signifigant. I work on Jet engines and do balancing on them and I know what i am talking about.
An engineer here and I one day when it was slow and worked out for every 1 lb or dead weight removed from a rotating component such as a wheel it works out to about 5 lbs rotational mass removed. So 4-5 lbs a wheel times 4 wheels is damn near 80- 100lbs of rotational mass removed. That I say is a good deal.

Continental ExtremeContact DW: 235-40-18 / UTQG: 360
10 10 tires = $254.99/ea
Tire Rack = $180.00/ea (but on special @ $158/ea)
Canadian Tire = $265.99/ea
Tire Trends = $222.95
Tires-easy.ca = $185.30
**Discount Tire Direct= $193.00/ea
** ~ this one made me consider other brands and suppliers which might not carry Continental tires with an agle on not having to deal with brokerage...
Falken Azenis PT-722: 235-40-18 / UTQG: 440
Discount Tire Direct= $119.00/ea
Bridgestone-Potenza RE760 Sport: 235-40-18 / UTQG: ??
Costco = $208.99/ea
Which also brought me to see easy-tires selection (probably the largest for the size I wanted);
They carry some off brands, Nexen which is Wal-mart's performance line, and then Achilles tires - whom I researched on, to see they only started making their own tires in 2005;
Formerly being a subcontracted manufactureer for Pirelli (1991-1994), and Continental (1995-2004)...
I rarely do anything without research;
I also prefer to not buy products sourced from Korea, or China, and although the Achilles line is definately not Europe, or North America, they seem to have a much larger presence in the Australian and British markets...
From my assessment;
lower numeric UTQG = better "grip" / better performance / softer rubber compound.
higher numeric UTQG = grip/performance compromised for a harder rubber compound which relates to more mileage.
blockier tread design = better dry driving / possibly noiser tire
more ribbed tread design = better wet driving / possibly quieter tire
Pretty much every turn you make in life, you're faced with a choice;
With every choice, is the chance that you made the wrong one;
@ $73/tire, and a company that appears to have been around for a while, making good products - I'm taking a chance.
...our OEM (TC) Continental ContiSportContac 2 had a UTQG rating of 280 - and these everyone complained about wearing out too quick...
Those Nitto NT555 have a whopping 300 UTQG tread rrating - so not too much better than our EOM tires...
at least that's my two, err, five cent's worth.

Also having a history of outsourcing tires means nothing. I could go pay someone to make tires for me doesn't mean I can build a good tire.
Even though it has a higher tread life than the stock tires doesn't mean it will grip less. Sidewall design and tread pattern can make up for it. All the reviews I've found of been great on the NT555.

this is akin to suggesting that a tech in a GM dealership will always provide better service work that a tech in another shop with the EXACT same tools...
as a company, Continental for example, do you think they would put their name on it, if it wasn't up to their standards?

Also if their tires is as good or better as a big name brand why don't they charge more for it? You get what you pay for. There is a place for budget tires and I don't think it's on my car or for anyone looking for performance.
