Manitoba SS 2014
Kinda like how I laughed at the local Chev. dealer upon seeing that the MSRP on a Cobalt SS was $30k aprox five years ago(!) - then again in the 2009 model year there was also the SRT4 fighting for a share of the domestic sport compact market ~ right now the Focus ST has no competition!
That's just the price of cars these days. It's not just sport compacts. Everything is 5k more then it was 5 years ago. Go shop for a new mustang 5.0 or a camaro ss.
Good luck getting into a new one for less then 45k with next to no options above base.
That's why financing is getting longer and intrest rates are getting lower.

Ya I agree. He makes good points but is coming across as a know it all. If I snap a rod in my Gen 3 I will burn my car to the ground. But really no one has any solid info there, it's just **** getting thrown at a wall and hoping it sticks. Don't think I can make enough power on 91 to see any issues if there were any but still not something I wanted to read if it is in fact true. Why they would even change the rod from the LNF is beyond me.

GMtech is not a GM spokesperson. He just happens to work for GM, but is not a voice for them. He is actually very knowledgeable and has contributed a lot of information over the years. He is also really hard headed and comes off with an attacking attitude almost all the time. He is hard to get along with but has posted a lot of good information in the past. He also has always seemed to have a personal vendetta with ZZP. Take it with a grain of salt.

I have been fighting a knock issue for the past couple years. I have a 07 Cobalt SS/SC with the 2L LSJ. My Mods are:
Performance Mods
2.8 Pulley
60# Injectors
ZZP S3 Heat Exchanger
CCSS3 HPT Tune (currently in progress & on hold til knock issue fixed)
K&N Air Filter
Bad Mab Header
ZZP 3" Down Pipe
ZZP Hi-flow Cat
ZZP Dual Pass
ZZP Option B
ZZP Phenolic Spacer
Air Box Mod
Stg 1 Mounts
GMPP LSJ Clutch upgrade kit
Other Mods:
Aeroforce Interceptor Gauge
AEM UEGO Wideband Gauge
ZZP 3 Gauge Pillar Pod
Painted Coil Pack Cover and Fuel Rail Cover
Billet Grille
Tinted Tail Lights
Carbon Fiber Bow Tie
Polished Valve Cover
Now that your up to speed on my mods. The issue, in a nutshell when going full throttle over 5000 RPM in 3rd gear I get knock retard of up to 12*. Also noticed is when doing a pull during shift at each shift my kr spikes 10* then back to 0 utill it hits 6K rpm when it hits 12* +/- 5*
What I have attempted to try to correct it:
1. Working with my tuner we have reduced timing from 22* down to 15* with no change noticed at all, same amount of KR still present.
2. I have had the fuel injectors sent out for test and repair, they were apparantly a "horrible spray pattern" as the shop said so they were repaired and retested and all is good with them
3. changed the fuel filter
4. change sparkplugs to BKR7EIX
5. looked for air leaks and found and fixed multiple areas of leaks.
6. looked for loose items that could vibrate against engine found and fixed multiple items there too
7. Removed Cams and checked all valve springs and lash adjusters all checked out ok
8. compression test OK
9. Fuel pressure test OK
10. Will be doing a leakdown test as soon a i can get my hands on a leakdown tester.
11. went to change the S/C oil this summer and there was no oil in it so trying to get my hand s on a spare M62 to see if that helps if so I will rebuild mine.

You were never anywhere near 22* or your motor would have exploded. But your current tune only has like 10* on top. But yes, dropping timing makes no change in the kr the motor is getting.
