Question Anyone ever try out for the EPS or CPS??

Well last week I lost my job !!!!! Now I'm curious if anyone has ever tried out for Calgary police services or Edmonton police services? If so what happened maybe you know someone that tried for it as well?

I know the RCMP here in Red Hole are going to have an info seminar and well I plan on going but I am curious about Calgary and Edmonton..

I am going to gather more info via some web sites..

By the way, I think police services need to have 5 free bullets, no questions asked ..

I don't want this thread to turn in to a bitch session etc, were all entitled to our opinion I know but remember, we always think of a group being asses when one ass ruins it for the rest by being an ass to begin with.. I've done security since 91 and still do it as it seems to be the only job I do very well at so now I'm thinking its best to expand that rent-a cop into being a real law abiding officer and be true to the sense of to serve and protect (L.A. PS motto)..

And don't you mean civil war? And frankly we don't hear enough good things that local police services do!!!

I would check it out, they are hiring like mad. For the past couple years every went to work with the oil companys because of the money; so it was hard for the police to keep enough staff. They need hundreds of officers to even out the police to civilian ratio.

Sry man, not tryin to trash your thread at all, just pointing out that with the way things are going, i'd say it's even more dangerous to be a Cop........wat if civil war broke out and the government lost? I wouldn't want to be a cop in that situation at all. I'm a security guard too, I work downtown Calgary, I see it all, the countless homeless ppl smoking crack, selling drugs, drinking, pissing and shitting anywhere they please........the cops arrest them, drive a block down and around the corner, let them go with some type of ticket and that's the end of it..........and when the justice system is letting out rapists to re-offend.......i just can't see ever enjoying being a cop, i'd get frustrated so quickly catching re-offenders all the time then finding out a week later their back on the streets......

I got nothing against the police service to bitch about or even start on really. lol But if your not scared of heights, or electricity power companies are starting to scream for power lineman. great money and a great job. Get to do something thats very rewarding in numerous ways. I know Atco Electric, Epcor and pretty much every contractors is hiring right now. good luck with job hunting earnie

No worries whitess/tc..

First I'd love to see your car but ya no kidding I bet the big city must be tough!! I once had a guy pull out a beer and start drinking it while he was in his pick up, I called the RCMP but sure enough when they stopped him, nada in his truck and not a high enough alchol content on him, the RCMP let him go!! I can't imagine how frusterating it must be but I'd love to be there to stop some ass from beating his wife or killing her but I know reality is a sick bastard and we can't win them all!!

Thanks Minuad for the info, what training/tickets do they require? And no I'm not afraid of hights or electricity, well I don't think I am ..

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I applied last year for CPS. Was deferred until January 2010 for some things Ive done in my past.

I had an interview with the RCMP in 2007. Was deferred for not enough supervisory skills. Im in the process of re-applying with them now.

TheDriver...I sent you a PM.

for getting started all you have to do is apply to any power line conpany, contractors I know of off the top of my head are Ace Construction, Vallard, RS Line, B-Line, Nu Light, Macgregors, Then Utility companies include, Alta Link, Fortis Alberta, Atco Electric, Epcor, Enmax, City of Red Deer. For experience you need none. Just a good hard work ethic, physically fit, when you are hired or getting hired ask about being endentured into the apprenticeship program. you will need to complete 350 hrs of training on site then complete the 1st block of 7 weeks, involves lots of math(algebra and trigonometry) and theories of magnetism and generation etc.... then the process goes on until you complete the 3 blocks of 7 weeks. and a final 1800 hrs to obtain your journeyman ticket. The trade is screaming and people this day and age take for granted where the power comes from and how it is maintain for use to even have a chance at creating, and browsing sites like this. The work will never go away or slow down even during this so called ressesion crap. Oh and actually the only thing you do need is your grade 10 math.

I have had friends that have tried out to EPS. There entrance levels are actually pretty strict, especially in the physical fitness level.
