Beat my 148 in a 70 zone ticket
Well. After spending 2300 on new clutch, slave/throw out bearing and installation it was welcomed news that my ticket was thrown out of court. My soliciter talked to both the prosecutor and issueing officer and after seeing all the evidence that I compiled they all agreed that it was mechanical failure that caused the vehicle to accelerate to excessive speed. It also helped that I replaced the worn parts to get the car back to prime operating condition.
On top of the hundred bucks (which is pittence compared to what that robber down at the court house charges to fight your ticket) I will also be sending a bottle of wine or some other gratuity for there help.
I now do not have to worry about keeping my licence, insurance rate, no jail time and a heffty ticket.
So a word to the wise for you guys that like to street race. Even though my problem stemmed from mechanical failure and not due to just trying to be an ass on the streets. There are hefty penalties that go with street racing or excessive speed if caught. You will most likely lose your licence anywhere between 6 months to life. You will probably get jail time and a huge fine to boot. Once all that is said and done and this is for the young folks you will probably never be able to aford insurance for quite some time as most of you are on a probationary period and getting an offence like this on your licence ways heavely with insurance companies.
Just a reminder...play safe out there and keep the racing to the track.
Cheers

wow nice larry..
yeah i guess showing them proof of having ur clutch and throw out bearing and what not being replaced showed dilligence on ur part... which they like to see.
Say you didnt get off... what were you looking at for fines and stuff if they decided u were guilty???

2. Jail time. Possibility of up to 6 months to a year.
3. Fine. Up to $10000
4. 5 x $1000/year insuranse premiums
So thats why I say way the pros and cons of street racing before you do it.
Wow great/lucky break...
Give you guys that were asking about penalties etc a quick story....
4 Years back when I first bought my 96 Neon (expresso - Fuschia (aka Purple) SOHC 4 door) - I was on my way out to Canmore with some friends... Now no one believed me when I told them I had gotten it up to 220 km/hr (granted it was on my way back to Calgary before Calaway park - that big hill with the wind behind me)...
Anyway so I thought being the 20 year old I was I'd prove myself to them and so when we passed the hidden RCMP officer he tagged us at 162 km / hr .... When he finally caught up to us he had us at 186 km/hr... I was scared shitless and didn't know what to do...
So now I had to go to Cochrane municipal court and plead with the Judge and almost begg and tell her that I needed my car to go to work, pay rent, and go to school... finally after her sending me away (I was on the stand at 9 am and she sent me away to "think about my actions" and she recalled me at 1pm).
Finally she gave me full demarits - 15 (I had had no speeding tickets etc for the past 5 years and was overall a good driver) and a 500 $ ticket which to a 20 yr old who was working at Dominos was like a swift kick in the Junk.
2nd interesting story / other part of this story...
1 year ago (it takes 3 years to clear ur driving record and if you lose 15 demarits on your liscence you will lose your liscence altogether for XYZ amount of time and have to attend a AMA Reckless driving course - I know this as it was part of my AMA driver ed package when I was 16 and was amazed at the morons that were there for repeated speeding in excess of 80 over the limit and the other half were Drunk drivers)
Anyway So on my way back from a hike with a cute girl my speed-o craps out and falls to 0 so I have no idea how fast I'm going and decide I'll follow this red car ahead of me... well no sooner am I following him and I knew I was over 100 as I was passing some cars but it didnt feel like much over... no more than 5 mins later a RCMP is in the west bound lane (I'm heading east) sees him and sees me behind and chases me down - clocked me at 142...
I explain the situation even tell the cop "Here take it for a drive I dont know what the F*k to do" and he writes me the ticket tells me the name of a good shop to get it checked out and 2 months later I show up in court with my record of repair (which my buddy at Fountain tire printed saying the guage cluster failed and was up to the driver to replace/repair - which I did by shimming it with 2 pennies and a dime
) and Vola the prosecutor threw it out and I had a $20 ticket for improper maintenance.
Anyway the moral of these stories are...
DONT BE A F*K-TARD AND SPEED
its not worth it and heaven knows you'll get caught eventually or end up as Paste for some poor Schlud to scrape off the side of the wall / tree you wrapped around.

and kaiso, thank god that thing was thrown out, thats a helluva penalty...
not braggin, but i got a 160kph in an 80 zone and **** was i choked. first of all it was 'estimated' by they undercover that was following me so its not a accurarate so its not as relaible in court. i was facing loosing 8 demerits , which on my graduated license is everything and a 543$$ fine. since it was estimated i argued and got it down to 120kmh in an 80, so i got 4 demerits i think and 243 fine. havent got a ticket since, and that was about 2 years ago. (knock on wood)
got a ticket today for 60 in a 40 i was on a 4 lane highway by the airport catching up with traffic so i could merge in and the speedlimit used to be 50-55 and all of a sudden its 40 now wtf, Oh well guess its my fault should have been paying attention apparently i wasnt the only one though there were no joke 10 other cars pulled over.
Not to be an ass, but when you noticed your car making a b-line, why not turn the car off, and roll to a safe zone....? All i'm sayin is, quick reaction could have stopped this before it happened.
thankfully i haven't had a speeding ticket yet. im sure i will get one, one day as it is enevitable. but i feel bad for some of you guys who get caught on a cops bad day or the end of the month they're ruthless then.
i almost got a ticket for doing 50 in a school zone that ends at 5pm down here by my place. so im driving home after a really bad week and i see yet again everyone is doing 30 even after the school zone is no longer in effect, but i forgot that my clock in my car is 5 minutes ahead so i see a cop and figure what the hell and pass some guy change lanes right next to him and then continue doing 50. sure enough cop lights go off and he pulls me over. anyways he comes up and i give him all my papers we start talking im all polite and everything. anyways long story short watch out for those zones and make sure you remember if your clock is ahead. the cop let me off with a warning seeing as by the time they would have wrote me up and such it would have been well after 5 and to prove that the school zone ended at 5 there was a sign right behind him with that said it.
and yes i do speed a little bit but thats only to get around retarded drivers who aren't paying attention, no way is some jackass gonna damage my cobalt.

lol ryan.
lol ryan.
i made the worst mistake of my life and got away with it i was toying with a yellow gto the other day and passed him to let him know i was there waiting to see if he wanted to mess around he passed me then so i went and passed him and got up to 110 mph as i was passing him and as i hit 110mph my radar detector went off cop goes flying by at leat going 60ish turns his light on but has to wait to turn around it was a curvy country road and i lay on it 110 120 125 then i see drive ways coming up so i turned into one which was perfect it had brush on one side turn my lights off set my e-brake so my tail lights were not on and the cop went flying buy thank god he didnt see me i waited a few minutes i was scared as hell not knowing what to do the only reason i sped away is i know he clocked me at 110 in a 55mph so i was in deep **** got back to my house and parked my car fyi never never never never again will i do domething that dumb i pry won't street race for a good while i am defenitely taking it to the track from now on i relized what an idiot i was so
how does your radar detector work? shouldnt it either make the radar the cop has say you were going 0 (throws it off so the cop thinks he fucked up) or make it so you know when a rader is close?
Yeh. I heard they were good. I went to points and he would not even do anything for under 800 bucks. I do not know what Gregory charges.

All I am stating here is that it is just not worth it in any situation to speed because the cops have heard every story in the book and even if yours may be legit.
Thats all. So if you want to speed/race or just plain act like an ass on the road, go ahead and when you get that ticket that is about to change your life, do not come back here and wine/bitch about it because you decided to do what you did.

a rador detector is just that, all is does is tell when there is an active radar gun in close proximity. if you want to screw with the radar gun get a fish finder and point it down the road or an osicilating (sp) crystil in a cb radio, but so help you if you get cought
well lets see. when you have a car that surprises the **** out of you and you swerve into the next lane to avoid another car in front of you and then notice that the officer is now in your sites cause he is standing in the middle of the road flagging another car in and you know he does not realize your car is out of control...a little bit of panic does ensue. So until you have this happen to you don't be so quick to judge someone on there reactions in this kind of situation. I am not some young ass who does not know how to drive his car. In third gear and in the power band as I am sure you know our cars are quick as lightning and this all happened within a few of seconds. Oh and b the way what makes this speed even worse is the fact that it was in a construction zone so the offense is now double what it would normally be here in calgary.
No offense is intended at all. Seems like you were a case of "deer in headlights" syndrome.
and just to add, i have been in that kind of situation having a throttle stick on me.
