bye bye race city
bye bye race city
sorry to be the bearer of bad news guys
Race City, Calgary, Alberta. We regret to inform that at 1:00pm Tuesday Sept 9th, 2008, all racing operations by Calgary International Speedway Inc., the operating company for Race City, are suspended until further notice. All scheduled racing events for the remainder of the 2008 season have been canceled.
We would like to thank all our Volunteers, Staff, Fans, Sanctioning Bodies, Sponsors and Racers who have supported us through the last three years of operation. CIS set out to save racing in Calgary after the announced closure of Race City in 2005. Unfortunately, the rainy weather and lack of major sponsorship support and low spectator counts to pay for the racing events that have been held at Race City over the last few years has left us with no choice but to cancel all racing and shut down operations.

calgary always had trouble because
1. the track often deals with DAs over 5000ft....
2. track prep might as well be nonexistant
3. the track overall is pretty chinsy
4. there are tracks not TOO far away with FAR better prep, and far better air quality.

but, fear not, in 2 years approx a new track will open, not sure of specific details yet but I know it's forsure happening. It's being funded by one of the rich ass ppl who live in/around Calgary. State of the Art track as good or better than Edmonton, HOPEFULLY, camping areas if their smart.

I'll say. Castrol may be the ****, but I'm not gonna put 600 kms on my car every time I want to run a quarter.
If they are smart they will put in a state of the art track. Just maybe organizations like nascar NHRA will come. That will mean better facilities for us and great entertianment. Let's hope they're looking to the future.
if they setup the property so ppl can camp there over the weekends then we know their on the right track
Then take it back to the streets , yo! Just kidding, thats sad whenever a track closes.
Pretty soon the track will look like some of these.....(Awesome site btw)

Thats actually pretty quick. I know a lot about building permits and stuff as I have built a couple houses, and flipped some lots over etc. The insurance and permits alone take months and months... Depending on the location there may need to be ecological studies done and all sorts of left wings activities. That last thing that gets done is the building... and the permit alone to build a commercial track is probably 500 000$ or so. A single home in an affluent neiborhood's build permit (Lets say 2500 sq feet) is usually 20 000 - 40 000.... and may take 8 weeks to approve . If you fail... well you get bent over
