Dyno and Tune in edmonton

Ok i need some suggestions on where to take my car when i have the mods i want done to get it tuned.

AEM Dropin, Stage 2, 2.8 pully, NGK 1 step colder.

Who is good at it?
How long should it take to tune these mods?
How much would it cost?
Is the tune detectable by GM?
Do they "lock" your PCM?

I'd get other stuff done before tuning the car. Maybe get an exhaust and a header? If you know someone with HP Tuners, and they have a generic program, just do that. Why the need for a custom tune?

I was under the assumtion that whenever you mod you will always get a more efficient more powerful car if you tune to your mods.

As this is going to be the extent of my mods (except the possibility of catback down the road) for at least the next year or 2, then i figured a tune would get everything running nicely.

I think the stage tune will be fine. If anything, maybe just bump up the rev limiter a bit. You'd probably be happier with an exhaust system and a header instead of spending a lot of $$$ on a custom tune.

sidejam is a noob when it comes to our cars, and an incredible thread ***** who loves to blab about nothing, esecially when it comes to our cars that he knows nothing about.

As for edmonton, nolan at campbell automotive did both my and james's(jmac88) cars and the tuning was well worth it.

its 100$ for the hp tuners credits, no it wont lock the p.c. no it shouldnt be detected with ur stage 2 in, he would just be fine tuning and expanding the tune to fit your specific car and mods better, it would cost 3-500$ depending on time but its very very worth it... ull see a nice increase in fuel economy too....like 2 .5 L /100kms

I'm a noob??? Sure whatever buddy...

Keep in mind, he's not doing that many mods to his car and only going with a 2.8" pulley. I'm not saying tuning wouldn't help. I'm saying for what he has done, probably best to still do other things. If down the road you have engine probelms and if (and this is a big if) GM can prove that you have had your ECU retuned, you could probably kiss you warranty goodbye.

hmmm, ok thanks for the input matty

Thats kinda what i was thinking.....peak out the power, fuel econemy etc....

Ive already got a pretty good relationship with the service manager in my dealership....
Ive already spoken to him about the fact that my car seems to be running very rich with a slight hesitation, and i asked him how GM would feel if i gave the car a tune without going crazy agressive.....just to smooth the engine out and give it what it needs.....

At that point he actually suggested 3 guys in town (nolan was one) to go to....and told me as long as the tune isnt crazy agressive, and doesnt CAUSE any problem....warranty wont be an issue.

GM won't really be able to detect any tune unless they take and fully scan your pcm. If your running the 2.8 on your stage 2, get it tuned. I don't know about you, but i was running super rich when i had mine, and the car got horrible gas milage.

Really i would recomend a tune to anyone, no matter how small the mods, GM did some really stupid things (like torque management ect...) to our cars its not even funny. But with 2.8 get it tuned its wel worth the $400ish dollers.

As for warrenty, as i said before, no matter how many people you know there is always a chance that something won't be covered, and you must alwasy be willing to take that risk. I am lucky my dealership supports me as much as they do, somethings i get covered, others i don't.

Oh, for future reference, to anyone doing a form of tuning, if you want to save some good coin, don't bother with stage 2 and just buy 42lb/hr injectors and a 2.8 and get it tuned.

How did I strike out??? This topic is more about opinion than anything. After my car was tuned, I honestly couldn't tell too much of a difference. I could barely tell the difference on the street. The only reason I knew it was faster was because of my ET's at the track.

You know what I mean?

Oh wait, no you don't. You've never run at the track...

C'mon, the guy is just asking for opinions. In the end he'll make his own decision. If he doesn't like what I have to say, that's fine. I'm not going to rag on him either way. Aren't we all here to try and help each other out?

Since I already know you're going to respond, at least show some intelligence and use some capital letters, punctuation, keep it grammatically correct. If you're going to insist on butting heads with me, maybe, just maybe, you could do it without swearing too. I know that's asking a lot from you, but give it a try.

Why do I get the feeling that every thread that both Matty and I post in, will turn into a flame war???

thanks for the good input there Jmac. Sidejam: i realise i may not feel any buttdyno, or major ET change from tuning these few mods....but the reason i want to tune is that i know ill be running these mods for a good while, and i know that tuning a car will help it run smoother, safer, more economical and more powerful. I have even heard of people gaining econemy and HP from tuning stock vehicles......
Basically once my mods were done i wanted to get dynoed anyway, so why not spend a few extra bucks and get it tuned up at the same time
