MrGriffithDW has deleted the original "Official Edmonton Meet Thread" where he started blaming the Edmonton members for not including the Calgary people in the meet. Obviously embarrased by Leafy and I posting our view of events, he hastily deleted the thread!

I am posting this for all the Calgary people to read in case they are pissed off at us (which I would be too if MrGriffithDW had given me his version of the events). MrGriffithDW is blaming his and the Calgary peoples exclusion on the Edmonton area people! I want to thank you for taking the time out to come down to Edmonton despite the weather. I am sorry that some of you were not as included as much as you should be. Unfortunately, with the crappy weather, the originally planned activities of the meet could not be carried out.

I was one of the first few cars to arrive at IKEA. Everyone started showing up and introducing themselves to eachother. I was visiting with Sean, James , Mattyfinch, Dylan, firestorm and some of the other members (some of whom were part of the first edmonton meet in April). Then MrGriffithDW showed up and departed with some of the Calgary people. No one knew where they had all gone to. Finally someone said that they had gone to check into the hotel. So we did a lineup of the 15 cars we had and took some pics. Next we spent the next half hour trying to get a place for everyone to eat. One place told us it would take an hour and a half to seat the 15 people present! Finally, we got in at Montana's. There were only about 15 people at this point, so that is all we got seats for. We still were not sure what all you guys who left were up to, so no one thought to get a table.

MrGriffithDW then accused us of leaving to cruise. The Calgary people and McGriffithDW had shown up and been seated at Montana's across from the main table after a brief wait. Redsupercharged girl had been sitting at our table just as we all began to leave, and knew we were going to cruise. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that we were leaving to go cruise. MrGriffithDW claimed we left without telling anyone! Mike was from Calgary and he knew what was going on and was with us! I was one of the last people to leave Montana's from the original 15. By the time I got to the parking lot, everyone had assembled, and we were leaving to meet at United Cylcle. On the way, several members stopped for gas. After we all arrived at United Cycle, we waited 20 minutes in the cold for the rest of you to show up at the parking lot. Someone called Mike and told him that you guys werent coming and had gone back to the hotel. We had been sitting there, waiting to meet with you all to cruise. No one intentionally tried ditching you! The plan was for EVERYONE to go for a cruise once we met at United Cycle.

MrGriffithDW did not introduce himself to anyone when he showed. I had people asking me who he was over dinner. Despite his claim that he told 5 people that they were leaving to go to the hotel, no one knew when they were coming back. So the rest of us started doing our own thing by consensus. Had he introduced himself like we all did when we showed up, more people would have known that you guys were running to the hotel and that you were going to join us at the restraunt soon! But he did a poor job of organizing and informing people, so the 15 or so people left over started making group decisions!

Every attempt was made to include everyone in the meet. If there had been better communication within the group, most of this could have been avoided. MrGriffithDW should be more vocal in his organization next time instead of blaming all the Edmonton area members for excluding the Calgary people!

ill admit i was a little confused as to who was who. I never did know who amrgriffith was, bu if im not wrong, he was the custom home made grille and blue cvalipers on the black ss s/c. nice job BTW. i also was wondering where several ppl went to. i also didn't know who was "in charge" of the meet, but since racing seemed bleak at best, i was vocal about my hunger. i travel to calgary quite often and had no way to know who was local and who was from calgary, with exception of Jeckyl. i would love to meet up with some Cobalt peeps next time i'm south. i thought it was a nice turnout, and will forward some of my pix.

I personally thank all who attended for contributing to a fun evening, and especially those who travelled and spent more to show up.
Curtis. aka, Fire.

damn, i got it all wrong. i never saw the dvd player. i need to see my parts buddy, Pat. perhaps i'll pop into your side to formally meet you. introductions were few and far between. this was a good time, perhaps a little clearer organisation would have helped, but we can try again another day i hope.

We should try and do another meet. Curtis and I both agreed doing a meet in Calgary would be OK. I would spend a weekend there. We could run at race city, and go for a cruise out to Banff (only an hour away). That would be a fun weekend. I am sure Leafy and others would come out. It was briefly discussed at the firt Edmonton meet.

Anyhow, the whole reason some things fell apart was because of the rain. Had we raced, it would have been an incredible meet!

gah!!! I ended up working later than I thought and knew racing wouldn't happen. I should have remembered to copy down some phone numbers so I could find out where everyone went so I could meet up, instead I went home and sulked about the rain.
I am definitely up for another meet and pray for sunny weather!

The custom grill and blue calipers are on my blue car

Also, yes the meet was kind of unorganized. Unfortunatly me and 3 others showed up late so we didn't exactly know what went on. We didn't even know the Calgary people were coming to Montanas, i though you had all ditched to do something else.

But, in montanas, i was talking to redsupercharged girl and specificly told her that we would wait at United cycle for you. One of the guys at Uc recieved a phone call saying you wern't coming, but that was your groups decision. I was kind of dissapointed that the rest didn't come out.

i think name badges and city of origin, would be better, although slighly tacky, but what do you do? i was wearing a Firestorm shirt, so i was covered. my wife (the blonde in the blue silverado ss) was also a little bored as not one person talked to her.

can we try again another day? lets get this straightened out. i hope the calgary clan is happey to meet the edm, peeps.

Canada :)... lets meet in RD next time eh?

Well despite the rain and the miscomunnication I think it was pretty damn good and yes sadly we "all" didn't get to cruize together but anytime you have that large a group someone must take the lead, I know I was shy as to step to the plate but was very glad to take part .. I would like to set up a meet here in Red Deer soon or at least before the weather gets unreasonable.. I would make maps up 4 everyone and help anyone that wanted to stay here over nite .. I know many good spots in RD and well I can only imagine what kinda response we would get!!!

Oh and the big thing would be that we do it on a weekend as opposed to a week day! And this time we eat at a fast food resturaunt...lol...But ya the meet was pretty cool/wet.. and if you want to make fun of rice come here!! lol I'll inform the police that you have all arrived!!

Come to me my children, come to Red Deer god damnit!

Ah hey firestorms wife.. I sat right across from you but didn't chat with you!!! sorry You did look a bit lonely but I'm kinda shy so next time U get my attention ok... Lets all be more personable I think.. No matter what we drive its all about the 4 wheels! I think a nice group shot around a Cobalt would have been a nice touch.. A meet is about people too! And yes the weather sucked but it can work as each meet is a learning experience!

Again, I apologize to firestorms wife for not talking to her!! Sorry girl. hey can I get a ride in your truck some time..

It's Sherry, Fire's wife. I was not offended my not being spoken to much. It was a Cobalt meet, I was there to support my husband, and was willing to race my husbands Cobalt. Jeckyl did talk to me, no one specifically ignored me I'm sure. I'd bet the next time all you guys get together, you will know each other a bit better and have a bit more fun. FYI, Curtis tried to meet some Calgary people before this day, and they didn't show up after confirming they would, and he didn't complain. Can't everyone all get along, without pointing fingers. I thought there was a terrific turnout considering the weather.
It was also good to see some other girls with an SS, I know I get accused of borrowing my truck all the time....

Hey Sherry, Yeah I made an effort to talk to you for sure And again, hope I didnt offend you with my one story lol was great meeting you and Curtis.

Sorry I didnt come to the cruise after montanas guys, but I drive straight back to calgary to cath the end of my buddies birthday party. I was planning on staying overnight if castrol had been open. But oh well.

Where I sat, I was only able to talk to the few people around me. (Curtis, Sherry, Trent, Mike, MadCanuk, and a guy with black ss, (sorry forget your name)

I was dissapointed with a few things. I was mostly dissapointed I couldnt race at castrol, but also about the way some members acted and how they drove. Only word I can describe it with is Ignorance. Ignorance to other members, and to other drivers on the road. Oh well, they are in every crowd.

Next meet will have to be in calgary, and we will all have to race at race city.

these things are tough to make work--so many people, I can barely remember anyones name! It was the first one, so of course there will be hiccups.

Just don't take anything personally----we all are car enthusiasts, not everyone will like eachother anyhow.

A cruise with 20+ cars would have been disastrous, IMO. Way to many lights in Edmonton---terible designed roads and most of the Calgary people (myself included) would have gotten lost. Plus in the dark!

I sure enjoiyed those Nurses on Whyte ave---you have some hot chicks up there lol

We just need a solid back up plan next time. And pre-book a place for dinner

Good to meet some of your Edmonton people!

It's Dustin. No worries. I couldn't have remembered most of the people there either.

As far as the driving, yeah. They can be a little bit crazy. Those who drive bad will learn. It will catch up with you. Lots of them treated the streets like the Indy 500.

Sorry for not talking with you Sherry. I am pretty quite usually. You looked tired (thought maybe you didn't want to be there) so I left you alone.

If anyone thinks I said something wrong in this thread I am sorry. MrGriffithDW made a post in the original Edmonton meet thread about how he had a terrific time. He then went on to make a bunch of posts in the original thread about how he was "embarrased to be an Edmontonian" and told us how dissapointed he was at the local members. It was sounding like he told all the Calgary people that we were snobs and snubbed them! I just got annoyed by him deleting the thread, so that members couldn't see what Leafy and I said in response to his comments. I still don't understand why he had to delete the damb thread!?!?!? He lambasted the Edmonton people, and then deleted the thread like a coward to save face! I did not like the fact that he was making it out like we had ditched all the Calgary people. We wanted everyone included and tried to include them! It was the weathers fault that everything got screwed up not mine. He started the whole big Alberta Edmonton meet idea, so it is not fair for him to be pointing fingers at the Edmonton Area members for ditching people!

I've already said too much, but I believe in speaking my mind. I'm not going to post anymore about this incident. It's done and over with.

It was nice to meet those of you who came out. Hopefully the next meet will be sunny so that we can go with "plan A" and avoid all this stupid sh%t!

Blue calipers + grille + eyelids was actually me.

and i had no clue what happened after we left for dinner. i was under the assumtion we were going to joes only. as that was the only place id heard mentioned. and i had gone to everyone and said that people were hungry and we are gonna head there after pics.

up until that point everything was great. was awesome to meet everyone, names were a problem. i remember jekyl and fire mostly because of the shirt and jeks license plate.

anyways after we took off alot of separation happened due to redlights and when i got to joes no one to be found

i have no idea why not.

kinda put a downer on the evening for me as i was really lookin forward to a meal/chat with everyone and a cruise.

oh well :/ next time we must be far more organised.

It was a very good meet dispite some of the technical difficulties we had, I have to say though to the guys that were left behind we had gotten word that you weren't coming out at all.

We can all build on this positively and work on a better communication system for next time, I also think, not to single anyone out, but a vocal leader for each group would be nice too.

Lets take some of these Ideas mentioned by you guys and definately incorporate it into the next meet, I'm excited for a Calgary run soon.

Heres what I kow about the resturaunt change. Rather then the Keg--which is pretty pricey I had asked some one about another resturaunt. Joeys came up.

When we left, I ended up at the back and due to traffic and stupid big box mall parking lot---I lost everyone. No one had my cell.

So I went to London Drugs bought a Bargain Finder. Then I drove around--which is when I spotted Joeys---and then a whole bunch of Cobalts parked at Montanas---right next door.

Someone mentioned this was the shortest wait for dinner is how we ended up there. At least my understanding of it.

If you guys come down to Calgary---stay in the same hotels and we should pick a resturaun, thats real close and make reservations.

Personally, I was very dissappointed by the lack of Redlines. Oh well, I'll give them a blast on my own time.

As far as the meet goes, if it hadn't been for the rain, I'm sure things would've been a lot different. But since it did rain, it was even more imiportant for people in charge to organize and lead. Obviously, that didn't happen at all...

In my opinion, if there had just been a couple of people that were clearly in charge, this mess could've been avoided. With other car clubs, I've been in charge of organizing events, but since this is a CoblatSS board, and I have a Redline, I'll follow, not lead. I did try to get some of the Redlines to come down, but... well, they all backed out or couldn't make it for whatever reason.

Either way, I'd still head up to Edmonton again, and I hope to see some of you guys down here.

Well, like I said before, the weather was the real killer here. Had the weather been good the meet would have been much more organized. Everyone would have been at the track, and that would have been easy to find. Next time we will need to make sure we firm up dinner plans (with a reservation) as well as making a back-up plan in case it ends up raining.

Also, as far as someone or a few people taking lead, that would be a good idea. We should have put together a cell phone list. I think there would have been a lot less confusion if people had been able to call eachother to find out what was going on and where everyone is. On MrGriffithDW and the Calgary people left, the edmonton people had no way of talking to them. We didn't know where they had gone or if they were coming back. Some people had said you went off to do your own thing.

That said, the meet could have gone much worse. It is unfortunate that some things happened, but they were not intended to work out that way. With the lack of communication and a solid plan, everyone was "wing'in-it"!

There is always next time!
