Sorry i didn't get back to you Matt. PCS Rocanville, 20mins north of Moosomin. Aproximately 50 more years of conventional mining left here, if they don't find more ore. They need piles of people by 2012 and the benefits and working conditions are amazing! Not to mention, it is THE most safest mine in North America.

Im not saying its crap, just that to attract employees to a place like lloyd, you will generally be paying more than a similar employer in say calgary or ed

its one of the main reasons wages are high in fort crack.
because its a ****** horrible place to live. (not that lloyd is horrible, just using that as a proof of concept)

location matters when it comes to wages.

Very true - Even to get guys to head to Grande Prairie we have to pay higher than our Medicine Hat and Leduc operations plus offer the Northern Living Allowance - I've only ever been to GP twice but both times I was terrified by some of the "BIG BERTHA" Rig Girls 0_o their thighes were the size of my torso :P

That's why I live in Maidstone...

But you are right... wages should be higher... and in some cases they are. It generally depends on what market your in... pipeline welders make an effin killing compared to shop welders.... as well... experience is key.

well, compare our shop welders at the mine, most people live in stony or sprucegrove, so 10-15 minutes from downtown edmonton, 4 days on 4 days off, overtime is all doubletime (and theres LOTS) full retirement and complete benefits
and they are getting $26 an hour 1st year $34 an hour journeyman.
our wages are even low compared to some welders, but you have to weigh the location and killer schedule into it.

$24 in lloyd? Im guessing thats why you will get a job bang right now lol

our jman rates are above and below 50 an hour

24 is great as 1st year as a shop welder w/out your own equipment, considering if you figure it out your jman rate is 34.50 your 1st year wage technically speaking is 17 to 19 area, also thats just 1 shop i knwo of, wages go up and aoru

compare a rent payment from fort mac to lloyd, 3000 a month compared to 1300 a month for exact same id be living in,

only thing that attracts ppl to fort crack is wage hiking and CAMPs where u generally live somewhere else and are bused in

not to brag about lloyd or anything, just My own oppinion on the matter, Lloyd may look ugly but theres a ton to it a lot of ways, but i have been here a long time
ROADS ARE CRAP THOUGH lol

ill give u tidbit of information, i have a company truck, a company phone, an expense card, and base salary of 70,000 a year before OT i cant complain period

I work on the pipeline and a couple years ago I was working as an administrator for a company and got to see a lot as opposed to only being out in the field prior to that.

Anywho, to give a quick example of what you could be making as a welder. I was working in High Level area, closer to Rainbow Lake and also up In Zama (Never going back there)! The welder's in those areas all were making from 150/h to 175/h with their own welding rig! Absolutely insane money, I couldn't believe it at first. Considering they were only paying their laborers 20$/h at the time. I only made 25$ and had some much more bullshit to put up with and wasn't worth it in my opinion with that company.

The company I am with now the welders don't use their own welding truck. It's all supplied for them and they make 50/h, which is pretty good overall.

Just wanted to share some incite on all this welding stuff. Carry on :P

matt one my best friends dad is a welder, but is currently the sales manager at Trimay Wear Plate. check is out, i guess he has been complaining about the workers he has and if you good with deadlines then you'll have a good chance. do you want me to ask him? the only problem is that there are located somewhere between edmonton and sherwood park
