It's a sad day for Calgary race fans. The city can have fun scraping up kids off the pavement from street racing wrecks.

As if things weren't bad enough last year. I got pulled over multiple times for being a "street racer"...

When getting pulled over:
- request the police officer provide identification
- grab your cell phone, turn on the voice recorder, and inform the police officer that you will be recording them
- ask them to explain why you are being pulled over

While this may **** them off a bit, by law, if requested, they must provide identification. Write down their name and badge number. If they refuse, put up your window, call 911 and tell them you have someone in a police cruiser who refuses to identify themselves. Since it is a 911 call, that will be recorded and be taken seriously. Also, as long as you inform them, you have the right to record them. I have verified this information with the Calgary police. While they didn't like me asking them these questions, it is within a citizen's rights.

Also, last year, there were targeted areas known for street racing where the police can pull over vehicles for no reason. This was agreed upon by city council in an effort to reduce street racing.

While I don't condone street racing, my car is AWD, so I'll have a launching advantage!

Ugh, Street racing is one of those things that is going to happen regardless of the venues offered. Its a culture, one that exists outside any sort of defined environment. It's called STREET racing. Now while I don't condone street racing AT ALL even with Race City, after they closed up for the evening, where did everyone go? Home to watch Fast and the furious? Nope, we went to the road king.

What I'm trying to say is that, whatever we do, WHATEVER anyone does, there will always be street racing. All anyone can do is increase the fines, for repeat offenders, take their cars.

Nothing says "STOP DRIVING LIKE AN *******" like taking their car, and yes, while some may find this extreme, it's the only message that will ever work.

In Ontario, they crush cars for street racing and even excessive speeding...

Maybe they'll do that here too.

Wouldnt it be quicker for Calgary guys to go to Medicine Hat?

Their facility is just as good as Castrol.

Edmonton is a way better elevation. It's better to drive north. We should all plan to go to opening night. Last year opening had the best conditions of the whole year! Not to mention it's actually not that busy as not everyone has their cars ready yet.

i like where your goin with this, what if we got 200+ ppl to go lay down a small patch of rubber infront of city hall on one specific day at random times all day long........the news stations would be taking video shots of that 1 block and all the different patches of rubber left everywhere..........it wouldn't be that hard to organize either

sounds like plan, i'm down with that, race city is still open for the remainder of 2009 tho, but i still want to goto Edmonton as they've got a 20x better track, maybe i can pull into the high 13's finally

i like the idea of makin a statement to city hall but u have to do it a lil less destructive the burn outs. burn outs will probably land us in jail, or fined. so i say as calgarians we all should meet at race city with all types of cars and cruise down to city hall. surrond the building and shoot the mutherf#*^ers up. no no that my imagination again. but let them know as collective group of people of all ages and car enthuisiests that they need to look into buildin a new track. a peaceful gatherin will raise more eyebrows to the issue at hand.
