RE: Sylvan Lake: Cops Kibosh cobalt meet.

I revieved this email today! what do all you guys who were there in sylvan lake think?

Good day gentlemen.

I have had the opportunity to completely review all the information on this issue. I have emailed Bill Clark on a number of times relative to Jody as he had provided some legal areas I wanted to cover off. I feel the real issue and this was reiterated by a number of you and that was pertaining to the manner in which you people were treated by our Community Peace Officer. I have asked my officers to communicate with the Crown’s office, the RCMP traffic Services in Red Deer in relation to tinted windows. This is rigidly enforced in the city of Red Deer and some of the traffic services personnel on highway duties also are vigilant with this enforcement. The question was about my officer’s behavior, he has a somewhat different version of events and that he didn’t feel that he was rude to anyone. He was intimidated when a number of cell phones were thrust at him by people wanting him to talk to various family members and a number of people all around him. He was not stereo typing you people as a result of a complaint about two speeding vehicles on 50th avenue as he said they were a different type vehicles than what your club were driving. He indicated that one of our fellow personnel and the RCMP that responded were all informing people of the contents of the traffic safety act.

I am suggesting that should this circumstance present itself again that the action might be somewhat different. In all fairness this member has been here for eight years and has previous police experience. He also is the most calm of all my people so the whole complaint somewhat surprised me. I have reinforced professionalism with him and all my personnel and also that the public must be treated with respect. This will be reiterated to my personnel each spring prior to the tourist season and I think is a priority within our organization. I have also looked at any training that might be available to my personnel relating to dealing with complainants and social skills that could assist them.

I know there have been a number of other car rallies in the community and certainly would welcome your organization back to the community.

I appreciate all you input and hopefully we can learn from this experience and put this behind us and carry on with our jobs.

I have also talked with the RCMP Detachment commander in Sylvan Lake about this complaint and some of the concerns addressed to us.

Thanks for your time and your input.

Regards

Dennis

how many of us got tinted windows again? lol. they did nothing is what the letter is stating. he says that makes you feel better but if we all showed up next summer it would happen again. also the cop was stereo typing, he said himself there were 2 black cars seen stunting....so he stopped when he saw all our cars parked. and it was unfair treatment... AHHHH!!! im getting riled up again. lol

I would reply as such:

Dear Dennis,

Thank your for your diligence on your followup with our situation. However, due to the information provided here and the experience in sylvan lake, we have come to the conclusion that our experience in sylvan lake has left a sour note with our car club. We are going to explore other options for car meet locations in the alberta area rather than Sylvan Lake. Again, we appreciate your followup with your division and hope you can create a friendly environment for all car enthusiasts visiting Sylvan Lake.

Thanks again,

so wait... let me get this straight. Most if not all of you got a tint ticket because you actually had tint on your cars and know it's illegal to ride in Canada with any kind of tint on any motor vehicle period, your mad that you got ticketed well knowing that it was illegal anyways and proceeded to write a letter explaining you were profiled when actually he was doing his job for the fact none of you should have tint on your car anyways?

Sounds like he did his job how he should have. I don't think it's profiling if he is doing his job? I dunno. Sounds like your pissed because you were told to take your tint off and got fined for it. Any one could have had that happen to them. When I drove a piece of **** I got a ticket for tint on my car, I didn't complain and drag my feet about it, it's the law. No tint. If you get caught it's your own damn fault. Your also just asking for it if you traveled in big groups to a location. Remember, you brought it to your self to get this since you already committed an offense.

you missed the original thread.... we were picked on because of a report of 2 cars stunting. he did not hand out any more tint tickets, he pulled a truck over in front of us with side window tint and let him go!!! how does that work?

all I am saying is everyone has a different account for authorities. When it comes down to it I realize some people may get burned by law enforcement. Perhaps the guy was on a power trip that night or he had a legit excuse to act as he did.

again sneaky in the original thread we all agreed why we got the tickets (tint and backward parked on an angle) it is not a matter of us getting tickets rather a matter on how we were treated while being given the tickets. we were profiled, not given a chance to do anything and when the rcmp officer who was called in for backup parks directly beside us in the identical way and we still get ticketed for it thats bull. both the cops superiors and the rcmp agreed that this guy was going overboard and that he should have just told us to either leave or repark our cars.

anyways i'll be registering my car in a few days here so we'll see if anything comes up. and as for the letter i'll definetly get in on that.

hate to be a stick in the mud, but if the law states no tint, then don't have any tint. It's pretty simple. Mine's is right at the law-abiding side of legal, and no darker. I like tint--it makes a car look good and keeps a little UV from getting inside so it stays cooler; but I was brought up to do exactly what the law says, to the letter. If the law said no forced induction, I'd trade in on a 2.4. If it said no performance exhaust, I'd stick the stock back on. I just don't like to call attention to myself--i don't make my stuff too dark, I don't use neon/LED lighting, and my exhaust is within legal dB range. I think the cop might have just been bored, in a bad mood, or trying to make a quota. Best way to avoid stuff like this is to keep your nose clean.

yeah that sucks--if he did the same thing, he doesn't really have much right to ticket the way you parked. i'm on your side on that one.

Pretty decent, but take it the other way. You're letting them get what they want.
What you wanna do is thank them for understanding and encouraging you all to come back. So thats what you do Tell them

"great, we'll see you next year with 500 really loud obnoxious cars, strippers, drug dealers and bikers."
