Stage install

Has anyone in Calgary done an aftermarket pulley install on a stock ss? I'm looking to finally upgrade (2 yrs later) to 42lb injectors, stage 2 belt, and nates 2.9 pulley system. The install write up doesn't look that difficult but my main worry is getting the stock pulley off. Looking to do this early May or late April. Any help or tips would be appreciated!

a hydraulic press will make your life as easy as baking cookies

or the zzp pully puller. That's also a good deal. There's a guy in calgary that has one, I just can't remember who.

Check out my sig for my mods, I did it all my self with very little mechanical knowledge. Its easy.

Thanks a lot. I noticed you have a Injen intake I might get one of those and install it at the same time, did it every make you throw any codes? and do you know if I'll need a wideband O2 sensor to get it tuned?

no codes from my intake at all.

As well there's no point to tuning the car without a wideband as you need it to tune properly. Otherwise the person tuning is just "guessing" how the car in going to re-act to the changes. Its a must.

are you stock? or stage2 at the moment?

I have the puller if you want to borrow it. I also got a wideband installed to monitor and installed an injen intake without any codes. If you want some help with the install I can help ( just did mine 3 months ago myself). The only code I'm getting is a misfire and some days it doesn't do it and others it does ( I have 60's though)

Cool thanks man, I'll be sure to shoot you a pm when I'm doing this. I don't particularly want to get another gauge just yet but this is the wideband we used to tune my turbo civic a couple years ago would that work? http://wbo2.com/2a0/default.htm

Also for datalogging do you tap into a wire to record rpm I know thats what I had to do with the civic but it was an old car? Sorry for the 20 questions just want to know exactly what I'm getting into before I do this. Gonna go see if I can set up an appointment to get an O2 bung done.

Did some searching and noticed a few Calgary guys were running a 2.9 safely on a GM stage 2 tune. Maybe it would be easier for me to go that route?

i bought the GM Stage 2, then got tuned to make it leaner. I will be replacing the pully with a 2.9 or 2.8 and adding 60# inj.

What I am getting at, is if you are going to change anything from the kit then GM stage 2 is a waste of money...

True but what am getting at is buying the parts from OTTP then using 2.9 or stage 3 pulley to lean out the stage 2 tune downloaded from HPT instead of having to buy a new wideband and get a O2 bung, not sure if the wideband O2 I posted above would work as I've never seen or used HPT. Most people seem to have been fine with Stage 2 tune and 2.9 in Calgary which is why I was thinking of doing that to save myself some hassle. I was looking at the OTTP stage 1 kit but I don't like the idea of running that with stock exhaust, manifold, downpipe and no HE.

I run the same parts as the ottp stage 1 kit and I have no issues at all. It's the best way to go.

I agree but my problem is my exhaust is completely stock from front to back so I was thinking it's probably not a good idea for me

So you're running it fine with stock exhaust? If thats true time to change plans!

Not gonna get greedy, going to stick with the 2.9 and stage 2 tune, not really comfortable going past that with no other mods. Ordering as soon as I leave work. Thanks a lot for the help guys!

sorry for jacking the thread but I have the bwoody's H/E brackets sitting in my garage if you want them, 30 bucks and there yours if you don't have any. I could help install as well, I installed the kit that was on my car with the help of sidejam (who sucks for leaving by the way!)

running a 2.9" on 42s is a hit or miss.

my car, believe it or not, can run a 2.8" on a tweeked stage tune, done with hpt.

according to data logging the injectors are good

but............

a different car data logged by the same tuner with a very similar tune showed his injectors were going nuts with the 2.9" on his car.

Sooo.....either go 60s off the bat and have no worries or monitor the 42s with your 2.9"

Won't I have to get a tune if I get 60's anyway?

What exactly does HPT hook up to to do its data logging? Does the wideband just plug into a laptop? I don't have a wideband gauge as I said but I do have the wideband I posted earlier would that work?

Perhaps I'll stick with a stage 3 pulley just for the extra safety margin

To answer your other question yes I'm running ott kit with everything else stock (except intake) no issues though, runs good except for misfire at idle ( still trying to figure that one out). If you get there kit they will send you a tuned pcm ( if you want an extra to send in I will sell you my spare)
