Welcome to Edmonton - City of Craters...

Everyone knows how bad the roads are in both of Alberta's major cities (Edmonton and Calgary) but it's getting so frustrating to even drive around. Last night my wife and I were cruising around on 23rd Avenue (intersection with 85th Street) when suddenly we hear and feel an attocious impact under my car. It is pretty much a completely hidden pot hole until you are directly on top of it.

Now I know the low pro's on these cars combined with the stiff suspension make for a shitty experience hitting anything larger than a pebble on the road but this one was just brutal. So I get up this morning to find that my rear passenger was almost empty. I managed to fill it with air and brought it right over to my GM dealer for a full inspection.

When you look at the wheel, you can actually see a small amount of rubber rubbed past the lip of the wheel where the tire must have expanded to. Hopefully there isn't any more damage than just a temporary impact of air going out, but I get the sneaky suspicion that my tire is probably damaged... Yuck.

Sorry for the rant guys, I feel better now.

(07 G5 GT) Some thing happend to me but alot more damage. I was going down the 99st exit on to whitemud going east about 65 km and hit one. Thair was no place to go it killed the front Tire instanly and the back got a killer dent on the rim but held air. Its suck cuz I had to get all new wheels and tires. I know how you feel the city just told me thair not responsible.

Apparently the city has had so many claims that they can no longer afford to repair the cars that are being trashed... It's ironic with how much money is in our economy and yet our City Council cannot seem to repair the roads. Maybe a new mayor is necessary...

Sorry about your tires/wheels by the way. That simply sucks, no two ways about it.

They are repairing the potholes.. but it is a slow process, there are just so many of them.. Just be glad your car didnt fall into that sinkhole (the one that was 4 metres wide and 4 metres deep!) south of callingwood road.

But i agree, Edmonton roads are ****, they are nothing like Calgary's, last time i was there it was smoooth sailin

We have the same issue here in Alaska, but rather than pot holes being the major issue, we have road heaves, which kick our ass... luckily our city has a massive budget for road repairs, which pretty much means the entire summer our roads are closed so that we can slide around on them safely in the winter, hahaha... but our road heaves make it almost impossible to go anywhere near the speed limit in some areas. I bottom up going over 30 MPH in some areas... and no, I have no idea what the hell that is in KPH... ;0

But this isn't something I want to hear, because I'll be driving through Edmonton in there near future on my way to the lower 48 of the US. I purchase a full spare tire and wheel for the ride on top of my donut, just in case I blow something in the Yukon or something like that... but I can be losing more than one tire otherwise the trip is going to be a horribly long and painful one.
