Unhappy 100$ Ticket for GMPP sport exhaust

I was coming to work this morning and got pulled over by the police for my muffler being to loud and got a 100$ fine and 72hrs to put my old system back on. WTF?? Its a GM part installed by a GM dealership. Can anyone else give me some input as to what to do. I dont want to give up my exhaust system. It sounds amazing and the car just feels better with it. I just feel like crying.

I don't know about Canada but I know in here Florida I would be fighting it. As far as I know the GMPP exhausts are street legal.

You need your receipts for the exhaust and the install. And then you go to court and show the judge.

If I'm not mistaken, GM publishes their dB level of both GMPP exhausts in their catalog. Find out what the law is, take in the catalog or whatever you can find with the stated noise level and all your receipts and tell them it's legal. If you can't find it in the catalog, go to your dealer and see if they'll help you out with specs/info.

It sucks that Harleys can be loud as ****, enough to make everyone turn their head. A car half as loud will be stopped and ticketed. It's all BS man!

if he didnt have a db meter to measure your car, and it wasnt above the stated noise level. then tell them to stick it in their ass, and give the judge the badge number of the officer.

I'm downloading the GMPP Catalog for you right now to see what they say. If it's any help, I DO know that the exhaust is 50 state legal when it comes to emissions AND noise. I know that in and of itself doesn't help with you being in Canada. I don't know what the strictest state is on noise, but most are around 95dB. So the exhaust is GUARANTEED to fall well below that. I'll let you know what the catalog says once it's finished downloading.

Says "check local and state laws to verify noise compliance" I'd say call the dealership and see if they can get you the exact dB level from GM and then see if you can find out what the noise limit is locally. I woulda just poined to the bowtie on the tip and say it was stock.

Thats what I did and he said it was still louder than stock. Thanks for the help. I apreciate it very much. I'm tryin to find what the dB laws are here. Its not easy to find, but its easy to get a fine.

lmao, in florida, i don't think anything is illegal.

now, florida, like many other states, has rules about removing emissions devices, but there is no way to say that it has to be the factory pipe.

I think I would tell the officer to get in FRONT of my car then he would only hear the blower whine ,instead of the exhaust note.

I once got pulled over for the same exhaust on my cobalt... he asked me if it was aftermarket and I said no its a chevy exhaust and pointed out the Chevy symbol so he believed me and let me go lol.. That sucks tho.. I guess they are pretty strict up there.. But goodluck and I hope you get to win that and keep your exhaust!

In Ontario, it is entirely up to the officers discretion. There is no set DB value.

It's my understanding that any exhaust modification that is done outside the factory is not emisions compliant.

I have been let off with very loud systems. I am very respectful to the officer that pulls me over. I also try very hard not to get on it in residential areas, or around any cops.

Good luck. I hope Quebec laws are better, but I am confident they have the same officers discretion criteria.

ummm from what I understood any mods in canada are illegal.... was something or other like that just passed?

otherwise i'd try to fight it ... even though it's 50 state legal which pretty much means nothing for canada

Definatly take that one to court.

Mods are not illegal in canada.

What should be illegal, is pissed off cops, who either havent made their quota, or just arnt getting laid, and they take it out on everyone else.

Good luck

Thanks for the input guys. I'm guessing its to the officers discretion. I drive nice and easy in residential areas and make as little noise as possible. I get on it on the highways though. I cant figure out how he heard anything. I was doing 70km in a 70 zone in 4th to make as little noise as posible cause I saw him coming, and I was driving in front of a big ass oil refinery that makes so much noise that it would drown out any exhaust system on the planet. It was two young guys that pulled me over, prolly looking for brownie points from the boss. They said that there have been alot of complaints in town and that there is a zero tolerance order. BS! i drive in front of police officers all the time and they dont even bat an eye. Gonna have to look into this in better detail. I did my research before buying and was pretty sure that if it was GM parts installed by GM dealer then no problemo. Actually I'm looking at a govt doc right now and it says "an exhaust system must have a muffler to reduce noise intensity to an acceptable level" I just cant find what that level is. BTW I was a ******* and did not think to ask how many dBs I was making. We have a sound meter here at the plant somewhere. Gonna check that out.

Its rough depending on your point of view I guess. If your into cars and modding you got no friends in the govt. The conservatives are just that... conservative, they would rather lock up all car modding, fast driving, pot smokin hard workers that make this contry run. And the liberals are just tree hugging, special interest group loving bitches. And they are both run by money sucking babyboomers. Our parents are gonna be dead and buried but they are still gonna be controling us from the grave with their bitch ass, not alowed to have fun laws.

Good question. Could that be a solution to my problem?

i would have told him that was your stock exhaust... i wouldnt have said it was aftermarket... cause it looks like stock to begin with

i dont understand how you can get a ticket for that but those motorcytles with the loud ass exhaust can get away with it
