Polishing Valve Cover and Supercharger

So i got bored and went out and bought Mothers Aluminum Polish, 400,600,800 and 1000 grit sandpaper. Going to sand the Valve cover and the supercharger down and polish it so it looks nice and pretty I got the Valve cover off already and im about to start, ill post before and after pics when im done.

Well i finished the Valve Cover for tonight. Sanded it and put on 3 heavy base coats. Tomorrow ill either finish it off with light coats to get the shine, or ill start the supercharger. Anyways heres the before and after shots of tonights work.

little over 3 hours. That includes taking it out of the car, sanding, taking a break for supper and then polishing and reinstalling

yea im still planning on how to tackle that. Dont really feel like taking it out of the car but i think its the best way. Plus i did the valve cover by hand, theres no way the supercharger can look half decent by hand. And the dremel tool that i was going to buy only has up to 150 grit paper

Yea same here... Really havent figured out a way to do it. Im really thinking about polishing the valve cover then painting the supercharger gloss black with polished ribs and paint the spark plug cover gloss black along with the fuel injector cover

Valve cover is easy, I recommend though start at something lower then 400 grit. You can see in the picture theres still rough marks in there, dont know what the hell it is but lower grit would get rid of it.

iiunno its really in there good. Maybe 320 with alot of effort and strength if doing by hand. Or if you have a dremel tool it would probably get it out right away. I might get a dremel tomorrow and redo those spots, not sure.

I painted and clear coated my supercharger today, it is alot less work than polishing the supercharger, and looks just as good in my opinion. I used silver metallic rim paint (3-4 coats) and than used 4 coats of clear coat.

It looks better than when I bought the car. My next step is to paint and clear coat the valve cover the same color when I get my car back.

I will post some pics later for viewing

Snakes709, good job on the valve cover, looks great.

I did not sand it down, I cleaned it with alot of brake cleaner and a toothbrush and some shop towels, then applyed the paint, and clear coat. It does not have the same smoothness of the exterior of the car becuase the supercharger has a rougher metal surface, but it came out looking awesome. I really liked the silver metallic color because the stock blower was gray, so thats the color I chose.

I will post pics later for ya

How long did it take you to remove the valve cover? did you need to remove the fuel rail? or is it a pretty simple job? (i.e basic hand tools?)

Took me 20mins or so to remove the valve cover, mostly because i had to keep running up 6 floors to get a set of vice grips and my socket that i took out of my socket set. I had to relieve the fuel presure and remove the fuel line, not the whole rail that the injectors are connected to. Other then that it was easier then i expected. And if i can do it, anyone can...lol.

Anyways heres the pics of it installed. This is with 3 base coats and 1 thin coat of Mothers Mag/Aluminum Polish. My engine was still hot as hell because i was out driving like 30mins prior to me taking the pics and putting that coat on. But i guess it acts just like military boots with a burn shine. Makes the polish stand out abit more. And sorry for the amount of light in the pics im in my underground parking and theres little light.

And I really wish my car didnt look like this on the outside....

Andrew i passed by your car the other day. was going to stop in and say hi but i didnt bother. Looked cleaner then mine. And I might go paint it now, wasnt going to but thats a good idea. It will do until i buy the aftermarket cover that says Cobalt SS on it and then replace the plastic cover that says Supercharged on it.
