snow equals better gas milage?

I often drive between saint John and Fredericton to visit a buddy of mine that has no wheels. Last week, according to the car computer, I got 7.4L/100km... that's good for me cause I normally only get 9ish driving around town.

So last night it was snowing in Fredericton, and I was debating on whether to even attempt a drive home (I don't have any winter tires by the way). So I decided it can't be bad, I'll just take it slow. My speed for the for the most part was 55Km-80Km... after that i was able to do 100km cause the snow had stopped and it was just heavy rain.

But, i got better gas mileage last night, I got 5.8-5.9L/100km for the most part, but ened up with 6.4L/100km by the time I pulled into my driveway, still a whole litre better per 100Km than a week before. Just thought I'd throw that out there. i think the sweet spot (for gas milage) on my car is 75-80km/h.

I really do need winter tires though LOL, talk about white knuckle, butt clenching driving when you feel any time you turn your ass end will take you into the ditch!

yeah its not the snow directly.....but forcing you to drive slower will definately increase your mileage.
just the difference between cruising at 120km/h compared to 105 would surprise you.

a few weeks ago it was nasty here and i had to drive to work at 70km/h and my needle barely moved compared to my usual commute.
