Almost died

So today, heading down 176, was doing 30km/h i let off the gas and tried to slow down, then applied the brake and abs kicked in when i barely even touched the brake and just skidded for almost 100 or so feet. Skidded into a busy intersection and almost got tbone. Funny thing is i have high rated Kuhmo ATS that are supposed to be good in the snow, but they did dick all.

Long story short, dont buy those tires, they suck ***** and you'll get killed. After my trip to the states i had to go straight to the tire store and buy a set of winter tires, no way am i ever doing that again in my cobalt.

P.S. i was also detained at the border for 3 hours today as they searched my car vigorously trying to find drugs or something. They even took my iPhone away as i was sitting in the customs playing a video game and then put me in some little room and made me sit there. Awesome day!!!!

Is that what its come down to?
Is that what Canada is referred to now?

Well I'll take Canadian health care ftw.
And not like I don't have a great amount of respect for those of you who are in the middle east or have been there, I disagree with the politics/reasons that lead to you and then more and more of you having to go there.

I'll take the frozen white north any day of week, no offence.

As to the OG post, you get what you pay for, those Kuhmo tires were cheaper that say the Nitto's and the Bridgestones for a reason.
I have Falken 912's on my cobalt and they do fine. That being said, you hit ice, and even if your in a 4x4 with perelli scorpions on it, ice is ice, anything short of studded tires or chains is going to slide.
Try gearing down almost to a complete stop next time, and remember it could have been worse, if you would have hade the p-zero's that come stock on, you wouldn't have made it to 176th to slide through the light, you would still be in your driveway.

Don't rely on your tires alone... smart driving > any tire

Not saying its your fault, roads can be pretty unpredictable.

I rarely let my car use its abs it usually is faster to stop with your own pumping or other methods like, down shifting. Also kuhmo uses a cheap rubber and I would never buy them personally for any application. And yes I do agree winter tires would be best, all seasons arent all seasons, they are a spring/summer/fall tire.

Glad you came out unscathed. If you have a manual car, learn the down shift to slow down its much better than braking on ice.

yea, it wouldnt helped at all with those tires lol. I couldnt even get going, you tap the gas and just spin, but its all good now, the winter tires are actually making me money, im car pooling with buddies from work because they have yet to get winter tires, so they ride with me, made $75 for gas money
