Anyone from Alaska?

I notice that Alaska got grouped with Canada and the Yukon... hahaha... not sure how that happened, but just curious if there is anyone else from Alaska that is modding out their Balts? I haven't really seen much of a street scene in Anchorage. There's some half ass attempts, but I haven't seen anything too serious in the three years that I have been here.

I have a yellow SS/SC with stage 2 and intake, that's about it so far. I have quite a few other modifications that are going to be done to it pretty soon, but I am waiting on the parts. I'll be putting new spark plugs and a meth/water kit on the car sometime around the 15th I'm guessing as long as it gets here in time.

What do you have done?

Wow I didn't even know they made them in silver or did you paint it? UP here, they only have red, black, blue, and yellow... I tried forever to get a yellow one when I was first buying my LS. I originally wanted an SS/SC but I can't find one, so I grabbed the LS hoping that a good turbo and other mods would come out and I could use the money savings to make it incredible... but mods came too slow, so I just upgraded to the SS/SC and I absolutely love it... it took me about 2 years to find one.... but now that I finally have one... awesome!

stage 2 is an almost mod to do... I really love it! It makes a VERY BIG impact on power... you'll instantly notice it, especially in higher RPM. It's like a rocket... but that's when you'll start getting crazy and want to modify it even more.

ummm....mines silver and I live in Anchorage. And there is another silver one roaming around also. Not much done to mine, lowered on H&Rs, intake, and HID. Thats about it. Plan on running it this summer cause im curious what she'll run stock in this super cold air. Did you buy yours at lithia? My buddy works there and said they just sold a yellow one.

And so you know, we also have orange ones here. We have all the same colors any other states have. I'm suprised it was hard for you to find one up here. When i ordered mine, ak sales and service had 3 in stock and lithia had 2. Granted, that was over a year ago, but i know that they had an orange one recently, and lithia just had a yellow one.

I was the one that just bought that yellow one. I'm taking it into the shop for some more modifications pretty soon. It should be a pretty mean little ride by the end of the month. I had to drive it all the way from Wasilla down to South Anchorage in order to finish up the deal.

There are a lot of cobalts here, but I haven't seen any SS/SC. They have the SS, but I have seen the SC at all besides the one that I have. Before buying my LS I had been checking their inventory online daily for several months waiting for one to show up. They said everything that enters their inventory goes online, so I figured that would be better than calling the dealership all the time trying to find one.

i never trust their online inventory. I know alaska sales had an orange one a month or two back that was supercharged. The '07s do seem fairly rare so far, but I assume they will start popping up now that summer has started. I rarely see any driving around town. There is a red one with CF hood, a silver one owned by a girl, an orange one owned by a girl, and a yellow one with the plates CHRGED. Thats about it. And of course mine, which would be another silver one. There was a black one, but supposedly he moved, similar to what you will be doing. Not nearly as many ss/sc's as SRT-4 neons. Those things are all over the place.

There are quite a few of the SRT-4's, but so far I haven't really seen much of a car scene in general. People just do the completely stock thing, they might throw in an intake, but that's about it. I see a lot of the ricers with body kits, but they are never done up anymore than just primer, which makes absolutely no sense to me... if you are going to get a kit, you might as well paint it so that it actually looks nice... but whatever...

I have seen a few carbon fiber hoods, some simple exhausts, but in the three years that I have been here, I haven't seen anything all that aggressive. I guess I should start going up to the track and seeing what they have to offer out there.

It's like that here too though. Alaska is like WRX world. Slowly, it is turning into EVO world. Frankly, it makes sense since we spend the majority of the year driving on ice. I just choose to follow a different path than everyone else. I tend to like the idea that there aren't a lot of modded cobalts around. Makes the car more unique and, for some reason, a lot of people have no clue that its supercharged, so they get a pleasant suprise and I get a little smile on my face.

There are a **** ton of Evos and WRXs here in Anchorage. It drives me absolutely insane! But, at least they are easy competition if someone wants to try to race me. But since I just installed my new Vortex cold air box modification... they can hear my supercharger from a ways away and they don't even attempt to race me anymore. So the excitement is gone... but at least I have fun zipping around town, since Alaska drivers drive so incredibly slow and leave such massive gaps between each other. It really makes for easy weaving, except on the Glenn where all lanes will have cars going the exact same speed right next to each other...

Oh, if this state had a "state car", it would be the WRX! Stock ones may be fun to mess around with, but sooooo many are modded up here that you never know what to expect.

Aint that the truth. The other day I handed and imprezza his ass on a plate, twice. Figured he'd learn the first time. But damn I wish I lived in Anchortown, not alot of nice balts up here.

There are a lot of modded cars in Anchorage, but most are more show than go. I find that outside of appearance, most of the cars have nothing more than intakes and exhaust and with my Balt pushing somewhere around 270-280 HP... most just can't touch me, especially if they can't shift, because that's one thing I CAN do... the hardest part is dealing with the shitty Anchorage streets and trying to show up cars when you're also trying to stay straight.

I hate driving in Anchorage, I love the place but traffic is just killer. I get road rage so damn easy up there, specially if I dont know where I'm going. Some drivers up there are straight up stupid. So I guess Fairbanks has its pros and cons.

I like Fairbanks a lot, but I hate it when trucks try to race you and that's what you get a lot of in Fairbanks. To me, a truck and car are two totally different beasts. I wouldn't race a minivan, no matter how modded out it is... so why race a truck? You can make a truck far more powerful than a car with very little cost involved... hell, they have so much engine space that you could throw a big ass turbo in there for a few grand and beat damn near any car on the road. Then again, I love going up against American muscle... for a 4 cylinder to smoke a V6 or V8 I think that's pretty impressive and if you lose... well, you have a 4 cylinder and they have a V6 o V8, so you have an easy out, it's a win/win for a Cobalt owner... but if you smoke a nice V8, damn it feels good...

What exactly do you have done that you're estimating 270-280?

I have 2.89" pulley, 60lb injectors, -2 spark plugs, shorty header, catless back exhaust system, meth/water, dual pass, stage 2 axles, and heat exchanger. Oh yeah, and CAI. I figure I'm somewhere around that, it's just a guestimate, definitely not scientific by any means. I need to get a new exhaust though, it has a hole in it somehow and doesn't make any sound anymore and I'm sure it has no real performance benefit anymore either.

I sort of figured 241 for stage 2, and I added a whole exhaust, so I said 15+ for that, meth/water is supposedly upwards of 50, but I said 10 for that, and with dual pass and h/e, I figured another 5 or so. Potentially I could be running much more, I use VERY conservative guesses so that I can be surprised at the dyno.

My buddy said there was a yellow ss getting stage 2 put on at lithia the other day. Figured it was you, but must not have if your running 60s. hmmm...interesting. Sounds like a nice setup.
