spotted: 08 turbo cobalt
leaving my shop in langley (200th and logan) i spotted another cobalt ss, but it didnt have that normal whine, more of a blowing noise. pulled up next to it when it stopped and spotted the turbo badge, and had the ss turbo rims. man do they ever look hot in person. also a hot ass chick driving it.

My local Chev dealership just got a new SS/TC in last Thursday........I'm actually surprised it's not sold yet. It's black, with red/black interior. Full options with the high rise wing.

Dont know how u heard the the blow off, turbo is to small. My buddy has one and i dont hear a damn thing, then i test drove the turbo today for an hour while my SS/SC was in the garage and i couldnt hear it, heard a faint blowing noise but that was just the spool winding up.

i never said i heard a blow off valve, but deffinitly heard the turbo spool sound. you might not hear it from in the car, but turbo ecotecs, weather they are factory turbo or aftermarket, have a distinct noise.
Are you maybe talking about that "phissh" sound that some turbos make between shifts.
If so I don't think thats a part that comes stock, the blow off valve is ment to release gases and keep the turbo spinning when the throttle is closed. It sits betewen the compressor and the throttle plate. Company's like HKS, Greedy, and Apexi make them for about $300.00, cheaper ones can be picked up for about half that.
Most stock turbos have a wastegate that instead bypass the turbo's turbine in order to regulate the boost it produces, and it don't make that cool little noise

However almost all stock turbo setups while include a recirculating valve to bypass the air when the throttle plate is closed. The wastegate would only bypass the turbine when the system is at peak boost.
Oh and don't worry, not trying to correct you, only clarify.

no i wasnt hearing the recirc valve, it was the distinct noice of a turbo ecotec in boost. ive beuilt a couple of 2.2l ecotecs with turbos, even with a restrictive intake to quiet the turbo, you get a very distinct noise when its in boost. hard to describe.
the wastegate it to controll peak boost pressure, all turbocharged cars have a wastegate, unless its a VNT (variable nozzle turbo), wich is quite a complex turbo and hard to explain how it works.
