0-60 HelP PLZ!!!!!!

Okay.. Well I went with a friend last night and drove around and practiced some launches. I was having him time me in 0-60's and 0-40's. as far as weight goes (him 150lbs and subs). Well I am very unimpressed with the results
fastest 0-60 was 7.89/ avg 8.30
fastest 0-40 was 4.77/ avg 5.40
I've also researched this car in the 0-60's and it seems this car on average does it in 6.1
and the fastest I've seen this car(stock) 5.7
Well I'm sure everyone sees my frustration at this point.
I've read all the launching procedures etc...
about not flooring it in first gear and feathering it. I've launched at 1500k.
I've realized that my first gear(i maxed out 1st slowly) takes me to 37 mph. but when I'm pushing it...I am forced to shift(due to redlineing rpm's) at like 29mph. So anyhelp would be soooo much appreciated. I really didn't think i was that bad of a launcher but now I feel like **** cause i see that I am a horrible launcher.
I've also watched this video http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v3...Clutchslip.flv Just can't seem to get it right!
Plz help me with any advice you can give me. It will be much appreciated.

Im pretty new to the boards but all i can say is your not alone. These cars suck at launching. Before this I had a turbo charged avenger running 15 psi and it was much easier to drive. Never had this dumb clutch slip BS, I could be going 30mph and rev up, dump the clutch and spin tires past 60 mph smoothly.

If I try this in the cobalt it will slip bad.

I've revved my car up a few times while driving and then when I try to shift the clutch pedal feels WIERD. and its hard to shift. Launching with me is wheel hop and clutch slip almost everytime.

If I feather out I feel like im not taking advantage of the launch a manual should have over an auto.

yea these cars are harder to launch than most fwd cars...wat u gotta realize is that not all cars have the same power curve..they both can have 200 hp,launchin the new si is super easy, since hp starts at like 80 and goes up,have little trq so doesnt kick in till vtec mode...on the balts it starts at 100 or so but trq is already over 100hp......but at the end they both have 200hp..trq gets u off the line,hp does the rest after 60mph

O well i'm not completely stock.. I have done the airbox mod and I have a flowmaster Exhaust.
I'ts just that if I really give it some hardcore gas it's like I will rev up and get **** for 2nd gear. but then again if I hold back on the accelerator before 2nd gear to maximize 1st then It's not as fast. takes too long. I just can't seem to figure out how to do it effieciently. Like enough gas to accelerate fast and at same time, not too much gas so I'm not getting any traction and my rpm's sky rocket and get **** for 2nd gear.
It's a big prob. for me. I also lowered the air pressure in my front tires and that didn't work either. lol.

when u launch it,floor it to redline, and once u notice the tires spining like crazy tap the gas and once u grip shift to 2nd and u should be off

Just launch like you would at a stoplight, that works the best for me, once you get good at it, it will minimize wheelhop/spin, at least for me.

I'll try that tomarrow. That seems a lil wierd to me.. but I'll deffinately give it a shot.. It seems that if i floor it I'll lose too much traction and when i start to tap the gas pedal( like you said) and shift to 2nd that I'll be too low a speed for my 2nd gear to really "be off" like you described.

get traction mods, prob the best thing you can get for the car cause what's use is all power if your can't launch or wheel hop really badly, i got engine dampner, tranny mounts and traction bars, it's such a relief to know that i can launch with little or no wheel hop.

Yeah, random has a good point. Wheel hop is horrid in these cars...I'm running stage2, corsa exhaust, injen intake, and vibrant headers...****, I'm afraid to launch. I've had a few good launches where there was no wheelhop, or lag, but until I get my engine and trans mounts + my strut bar, no more launching for me haha. So your best bet, is wait till you get your mounts, then try again dude.

get a torque damper, then lower your tire pressure to 25psi... try again... i think you'll nail it.
