1/4 Mile Help/Info + Question
1/4 Mile Help/Info + Question
All right, I have a 2005 Cobalt SS S/C, with a little over 1000 miles on it. I plan on bringing it to the track within the next month or so. I've been doing a lot of reading, trying to get a good idea of what to expect from the car. I've never ran a car down a drag strip in my life, so it will all be new to me. I've done quite a bit of street racing, but this will be against the clock.
I want to get all of your inputs on what I should do. I know the car wont be fully broken in until around 3-4000 miles, but I want to see what it can do, before it gets really cold and snows.
All right, and for the question. There’s a guy in my town that owns a 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 quad-cab, and we hate each other with a passion. He talks so much ****, its unbelievable. But anyways, my question is, if we were to run each other, what would the outcome be? I've seen trucks like his run 15.02s all day long this summer at the track, but I guess it’s a 13.9-14.0 truck stock. Just wanted to know if there was a way I could take him.
Thanks for any help~!

I WOULD SAY IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN TO THE TRACK, AND HE TALKS ALOT OF **** AND HE DRIVES A SRT-10, I WOULDN'T RACE HIM. THE TRUCK HAS 500 HP. I WOULD DO SOME HOMEWORK ON DRAG RACING AND SEE HOW FAST HE RUNS HIS TRUCK BEFORE YOU TRY TO RACE SOMEONE WHO WILL NEVER LET IT DOWN IF HE WINS.
Could you beat him? YES! But you could also beat a Viper if the driver was bad enough. The more appropriate question is, "How likely am I to beat him?" The answer is not very. Although the SRT-10 is very heavy, and not the least bit aerodynamic, the thing has a ton of horsepower, and can easily nail down low 13 second times.
If you had a ton of seat time in your car and he had none, I would say give it a shot. However, with all that power he's gonna have to make some mistakes and your going to have to be very good to stand a chance.
Perhaps you could convince him to run you on a road course, you would definently have the advantage there. Otherwise wait for some mods, get in some practice, and run him when you've got a better chance of winning.

Sorry to tell you this, but contrary to everyone's personal opinion that they are a great driver (by definition; half the people on the road have less than average skill, but I have yet to see one post online), you are not a good track racer. Not to say that you might not become one, but with zero experience racing, you are not going to cut a low 14 second run with your CSS, I would venture a guess that you will be in the 16's your first time or two out. An automatic anything (truck included) with any kind of power whatsoever is exremely likely to beat you soundly and repeatedly. Go and practice at the track for a couple dozen runs and then see how you do.
My best run with 1000 miles on the car was a 15.01@97.8.
My best to date with 4500 miles is 14.7@98.9.
I didn't post the slip because ToMeGuN already posted a 14.7.
If you spin the tires you'll never break 15.0 from my experience.
Practice, practice, practice. Use the clutch to feather the wheel spin.
Good Luck and have fun

I didn't know that SRT-10's came in Quadcab. If they do make one, I'm not saying they don't, don't waste each others gas! Even if he launchs poorly he should have enough power to over come that. Those trucks are out of our league. Try racing a Ram with a Hemi, that should be closer!
Well, see my concern is that, the 2005 RAM SRT-10, all came as Quad-Cabs, and most (maybe all) came with automatic transmissions. Plus they weight around 6000 lbs.
MY dad owns a 2004 SRT-10, and he has the 2 door, with the 6spd hurst in it. They get 0 traction off the line, he smokes the times for 200 ft off the line. I just watched a few 4 doors run at Milan raceway, and they are all running low 15s, because the tranny in the sucks ass. If I can get the car to go down the track good, I was thinking I’d have a chance. I really hate this ass-hat. After the warranty runs out, this cars going to be modded to no end.

It's gonna be pretty hard to take an SRT-10...for gods sake it may be a pickup but it has a Viper V10 in it! Unless he's a suck as driver and your really good, it's gonna probably be a loss man.
I suggest slashing his tires lol

Who cares who wins, just go to the track, run what you brung and get a personal baseline. I've been lined up next to everything from a 9 sec Nova to a 19 sec fart can Civic. When there's no money on the line, it doesn't matter what I'm paired up against... I'm racing against my personal best and getting some seat time for the real races.

you shouldnt even worry about it, 8.3l 500hp RWD truck vs ~220hp 2.0l FWD car. he has all the advantages except for weight
