15.663 @ 88mph

Well im getting there, my last best time at the track was a 16.1 @ 87. This time i pulled off a 15.66 @ 88.64mph with a 2.274 60' foot time

Unfortunately once it cooled off outside at the end of the night on my last runs, my clutch was slipping a little off the line so i was runnin 15.9's at the end with 2.4 60' foot times, when i could have easily got alteast a 15.4. Oh well, next time i let the car sit all night until the end when its cool out then run so my clutch wont be too hot and slip lol.

BTW this is a bone stock 07 cobalt SS 2.4 5 speed

Video, this is a 15.9 run, trying to downsize the 15.6 run, its too big for photobucket so i cant upload it

dont worry im not done yet this summer, i want atleast a 15.4 or better before this season is over, but its staying bone stock this year until i pay it off.

These clutches dont like heat too much unfortunately, once i left the track and it cooled off, it was fine again, i have to invest into a nicer clutch once this one wears out.

What is a good replacement clutch for the 2.4's? This car is a DD year round, only goes to the track 4-5 times a year so i need it to be DD material but still hold up at the track decently

well its got 50,000km on it right now, ive only owned it for about a month, havent put much km on it but i dont know how the other owner treated it and i dont know how long these stock clutches go for.

Also for daily driving i go easy on it, runs great, but after the 4th run at the track tonight, the clutch didnt want to play ball anymore. After i got home and took it for a driver later, the clutch was fine again, just got too hot, it was fairly warm out today.

i think you could get a 15.4 with a good launch... 88 mph really isn't great for the car is it? where are you shifting?

whats a good psi to put my front tires at for racing? Also the damn dealership put nitrogen in my tire so do i have to drain the air completely out of the tires if i want to fill them back up or can i mix the air and nitrogen?

You're not going to gain a lot of traction with a street tire by lowering the PSI. About the nitrogen, don't worry about it, you can mix it with regular air.

Just a suggestion, but maybe at the top of 3rd, try shifting into 4th slightly early (like 6400 rpm). When my car was stock except for a K&N intake, I hit 91 mph when I shifted to 4th.......2 runs after that I left it in 3rd and only got 88 mph.

hmm good advice thanks for that, i will try that next run because i never got out of third, maybe thats why my 2.2 60 foot run only got me a 15.6 because i maxed out third gear pretty much before the end

Well maverick just tested that theory and gained 3mph by going into 4th, i have always kept it in 3rd and between the 15.6 run and the 15.9 run i got 88mph on both even with a 2.2 60 foot. So maybe shifting to 4th is the anwser for us low elevation racers

Im not sure how thats working out since anytime you are shifting, is time you arent adding to your acceleration.

Shifting just before the line normally doesnt work out as well as carrying the gear you are in...although if you are way up in the gear, your power may also be plummeting if you passed peak.

That's what I think happens. Although the stock LE5 makes max power at 6200 rpm, I believe (not certain though) that the power plummets after that.
