First time ever racing. at infineon raceway. did three runs. i really messed up on the third run and not even going to post it. so here is the time slips. if any one can give me any tips to do better it would help a lot.
don't go WOT right off the start. go light then wot. work on ur Rxn time. don't worry. everyone messes up the first time at the track dude. its like sex. were u amazing ur first time? hell no. it takes practice.
u have an ss/sc...oh. don't worry about it. i thought u had a 2.2. just work on it.

Wow.. Are you starting off in 2nd gear or something? My first time at the track I ran a 14.6
Don't spin 1st.. Start off around 2k and ride the clutch out for a few feet until it grabs.. then quickly go to 1/2 throttle and ease the car into WOT until you are at 6k in 1st..
Shift to 2nd, let clutch up fast and floor it once the clutch is up (takes practice to do this quickly).. Shift to 3rd, and keep it on the floor until you cross the finish line.

either that or change your tires.. the stock pirellis suck... i recommend nitto neogens... great sticky low cost tire... 400 bucks at www.discounttiredirect.com in a 225 40 18
i had some crazy tire spin. seems like i wasn't getting any traction. track is a lot different then launching from the street. the 3rd time my car started going back so i tapped the brake to keep myself staged then
it "countdown" started an i rushed it, got some really bad wheel hop and then i burned the cluth going to second (i'm alot better driver then that! lol shouldn't of happened). but i think the whole thing is getting my car to go fast quicker.

turn on the radio and listen to some music. it'll help calm you down. this will allow you to focus on what was said above. def don't floor the gas pedal on launch. also try launching on the third yellow to help your r/t's get lower.
thats what i heard, thats what i did the 1st time but i got on it little to fast and started spinning my tires. i think it's the adrenaline because im pretty good at launching it on the street lol.
Hey!!.... I have never been to the track either, but want to try it this summer with my S/C....I bet my times will look a lot like yours... as long as you get better, don't worry about it I say....

Street tires arent made of the same compounds as drag slicks so all you are doing when you drive through it is wetting your tires, then while you are trying to look cool on the burnout you are getting it off but not between the tread. You get staged and the water drips down onto your tread rewetting it. I went through it the first time I was there, spun a little, then when the tree dropped I spun my way through first and barked second.
Did you go through the burnout pit or go around it?

So far the people that have given advice, are giving good advice. Can't say the same for people like jbenso4.. but not everyones a winner.
In any case.. I drop my stock tire pressure down to 20 in the front, leave the rears as they are. Work on the 60' as that is where all the time is. .1 on the 60' works out to about .3' on the 1/4.
Do not wind out 1st gear. I like to shift between 5k/6k in first gear, because the dump into second sits just above 3k and right near the start of the power band. If you shift before 5k you'll lose to much momentum. If you shift after 6k you'll chirp 2nd and lose vital traction.
Ease off the clutch. do not let the wheels spin. This is very important. Your reaction has room for improvement, but it's not that bad for your first time out. Hell, I was around 1.2 secs reaction on my first time to the track.
Launches, I'd suggest that you don't rev up at all. I like starting from an idle on stock tires. I've heard to many horror stories of snapped axles. If anything i'd say around 2k at MOST. But again, I find you get a smoother launch (and no wheel spin) if you launch from idle. Ride the clutch out with the trottle no more then 1/2 way. I almost never go WOT in first gear. I hit about 3/4 throttle and am almost at 5k getting ready to shift to second.
Above all else. Practice makes perfect. Learn the cars limits. I still haven't hit the times I know the car is capable of at my mod level, and there is always room for improvement!
