2.4ss 15.22 @ 91.84mph

So I made it to the track, and my times were what I was expecting. However, there is a sidenote to my car. Here is my best run out of the 3

reaction = .635
60' = 2.322
330ft = 6.461
1/4 mile = 15.227
1/4 MPH = 91.84

This best time I got on only my second run, after my third run, my clutch pedal started acting up like I posted in a previous thread where is sticks momentarily in the depressed position. I still got to figure out how to launch this car since I only got 3 tries before my clutch pedal issue. I could only muster 15.4 that run, and the next two runs my problem with the clutch pedal only got worse and I bailed out of the runs. Off to GM warrenty Monday :-D

So yeah, once I learn to launch this beast, and get my clutch pedal fixed, my times should get closer to 15.0
Plus, my car only has 3000KM on it, it will get faster as it breaks in.

And yes, I have timeslips to prove this and even another member of this board was there to witness it

RockTheSVT 09-25-2005 02:41 AM

There we go, that's the time I wanna see!

mi6_ 09-25-2005 03:24 AM

Good run. Thats a pretty good time. Better than I would have expected. Although, the 2.4SS is certainly no slouch!

avro206 09-25-2005 09:57 AM

Awesome times Mike! :bow: That easily backs up and exceeds my corrected times. (15.5 witha 2.5 60ft)

Witha better launch I'd be right there with ya. What are your 1/8 mile time and mph?

The stupid tracks sensors were broekn for 1/8 mile times and MPH. When I get home tonight I'll scan my timeslips in. The track also closed an hour early because not enough people were there, it really pissed us off since we ere there and paid. :mad:

Hot Carls R/T 09-25-2005 01:43 PM

Did you have a problem with going into 3rd gear? What track did you run at? By the way excellent times.....for N/A Cobalt SS

MikeSS 09-25-2005 03:31 PM

I ran at St Thomas, Perferated was there.

I didn't have trouble getting into gear, my problem is the clutch pedal hydrolics are messed up and somethimes the clutch won't depress and return to its normal position. so I put the car in gear, then like a slpit second later the clutch pedal release and I grab a gear. it is a big piss off.

avro206 09-25-2005 07:11 PM

Tell me about your launch procedure please.

I find I cannot hold any rpm steady! :mad:

97cavie24ls 09-25-2005 07:37 PM

sweet times man

silverSS 09-25-2005 11:15 PM

again, good times for a N/A SS, are you planning on any mods?

Hehe, next spring will be intake and exhaust, not sure after that.

RedCobaltSS06 09-25-2005 11:34 PM

Awesome times, better than i hoped. now once i get mine here, i'll know what to expect.

DC52NV 09-25-2005 11:40 PM

For the problems you were having with your clutch you still put down some nice runs. It was too bad your clutch started acting up again after only a few runs and then to add insult to injury they closed the track early (and of course I got on the wrong highway on the way back to London again :mad: ). Your second run was definitely solid...but you could tell when you started running into problems with the pedal again. Was still fun to see a Cobalt running the strip ( especially with one headlight :lol: )...can't wait to see 'er rip again once your clutch is fixed.

I hope when you said "I ran at St Thomas, Perferated was there." you were either talking about someone else or meant to really type Permafried- but your hands slipped on the keyboard ;).

Wish i could have been there to see it. i am so ticked. my 2.4 was supposed to arrive last week, dealer giving me BS excuses of course, so i hope monday morning brings me a red SS, then i can get started on the break in. woo!

codyss 09-26-2005 09:14 AM

Hopefully GM didn't do what they did to the 1998-2000 F-Body.

They made it so that the clutch hydraulic system was designed to be easy on the drivetrain. But this led to the clutch pedal getting stuck and frying clutches. Hopefully this won't mean there will need to be a SS/SC upgrade to the hydraulics.

Then again maybe if your lucky the system just has air in it.

I just got back from the dealer, it was there all day and they couldn't get it to duplicate. I took them out in the car and it happend for me no problem. I think it only happens at high RPM's. Oh well, no one else has reported the problem to GM so nothing can be done about it yet. :mad:

That's no problem I thought it was funny anyways...just couldn't pass up an opportunity to give someone a hard time :lol:!

I wonder if maybe it's the higher RPMs that first introduce the problem but then afterwards it seems to linger, I would assume until the car cools down a bit. Your car wasn't running when Mike got in and started playing around with the clutch and he said he noticed it...sucks that they can't do anything about it though. I guess as long as your clutch isn't slipping while your car is running as a result of it not being fully engaged at least you can still drive it :thumb:.

Hopefully you can still make it out to Sherway on Sunday...I'll be coming down for sure in hopes of being there by 10:30 at the latest.

wow thats kinda crazy.... the funny thing is, I had a 95 Talon TSI and it ran the same time at almost the same speed. 15.2 @92mph. And It was doing the same thing with the clutch. I find that very crazy... and my talon was modified.... thats interesting.

MikeSS----tow questions for you:\

1. Do you powershift?

2. What kind of launch do you perform?

SS4ME 09-27-2005 08:55 PM

Very nice times! Only slightly better then I exspected. Hope you don't have any real problems.

No powershift, but should since my clutch isn't working right anyway :lol:

And I was launching anywhere from 2200-3000rpm.

I feather the clutch and got wheel hop at 2200rpm, and way too much wheel spin at 3000rpm. I found the best spot to be around 2600rpm.

xonic 09-29-2005 07:36 PM

have any engine/exhaust sound clips?
