Awesome day at the strip ....13 sec ET's with stock pulley

Well , I had a GREAT day at the track today . The NEVER happens scenario of not a big car turnout , PERFECT weather , and really good track just worked today . I got ALOT of time to get a feel for my car . Started off really bad ( my 1st pass was a 15.53@99.8 ) then got proggressively better and better . This time I got the car off the line pretty good letting out on the clutch qwikly but not exactly dumping it , and easing in onthe throttle . 1-2 shift was the absolute bitch of the day , every time I had to peddle it on the 1-2 to prevent wheelhop and tirespin . I got it under control though and ended up with some damn good passes . First off , the sole power mods on my car are a Injun CAI and a 2 1/4" Edlebrock SDT muffler with all the rest of the exhaust piping stock . I ran on stock P. rosso's , found the psi to best at 27 psi for me . I dont have any suspension mods or poly mounts at all . Weather was great , clear skies and upper 40's , I dunno bout the humidity , and the elevation is 662 ft above sea level at the track I raced at . All runs were launched just off idle to 1500 rpm , going over that was a MESS , lol . All 21 runs I shifted at 6400 , all runs were powershifted and I did have to shortshift 4th just as I was about to cross the finish line to prevent hitting the rev limiter . I only posted pics of my best times , I had 21 runs so it'd be a bit rediculous posting them all . I was car #6 . Im happy and aggrevated , if I had poly engine mounts , trans mount and control arm bushings and a good tire I could been deep in the 13's on every one aaaand cut possibly 1.8x 60 ft , grrrr It was MPH'ing like a champ today , its the happiest surprise of the day considering my modlist , 103.23 was my best

The car and the clutch are still strong as can be . Alot of the 1-2 shifts werent powershifted but all the 2-3 and 3-4 runs were . I dunno , alot of people would say thats dumb , but I LOVE to bang gears and get the most I can . I dont whine when I break stuff if I do , I know Im hard as hell on my cars

Thanks guys .

Another wierd thing . When I let the car cool down for a long time , I could never get a good run 1st time out after along cooldown , my mph would always go down to 100-101 . The best runs and mph came after hot lapping , Id make 5 or so runs in a row then let the brakes and the clutch cool for awhile then do it again . Supercharger outlet temps would skyrocket to 120's in the lanes and then come down pretty qwicky to high 80's and low 90's while I hazed the tires off and staged , always was 112-115 at the end of the run . Coolant stayed dead steady at 183-185 on all runs , again though itd creep to almost 200 in the lanes . Coolant temps also dropped qwikly once u started generating RPM .

I thought this car would HATE hot lapping , was pleasently surpried the opposite was true . I bet it wouldnt like it too much on a hot day though , or even a warm one .

Good luck shortbus

Great runs! How long were you're burnouts? Also, how long of a cooldown would you say your car likes? I'm going to the track in two weeks bone stock, and I'm just trying to get a feel for what works for other people. Thanks

Not trying to hijack the thread but when i went to the track i didnt really bother doing a burnout seeing as you cant really warm up tires well unless they are drag-radials or slicks, at most i did a small chirp up to the stage.

I didnt do a burnout "persay" . I just drove completely around the waterbox , lined up in the grove , popped the clutch in 1st , no brake and just hazed the tires just enuff to scrub the dirt and anything else that might be on them off . You try doing burnouts with a normal radial tire and its pretty much pointless , its just makes them greasier because it ***** the rubber up . You only do burnouts in a drag radial or slick because theirs compunds in the tire that drawn to the surface by the heat .

My car was loving being hot lapped , it got qwiker after 2-3 runs in a row . I just kept watching the cooling temp and the intakeair 2 on the Aeroforce , and was pretty easy to keep both temps consistent . The supercharger temp creeps up QWIK when the car isnt moving , but it recovers qwickly once you start moving . I could sit in the staging lanes , its creep to 120 real fast , but if I brough the revs up to about 2000 it's start to drop pretty qwikly also . I was cooling down to give the brakes and the clutch a break to cool only .

Very nice, I like your 60 foot. Definately means I am doing something wrong.

How do you launch, did you ease into first or where you taking off at a particular RPM?

i'm amazed that only an intake and exhaust gave you you a 102 trap, stock one of my friends could only get a 95. Awesome driving man, you just **** on my stock time lol.

Wow great times Silver, your SS is hauling w/ that trap speed, especially on a stock pulley!

You've got yourself a beast.

Thanks alot guys , haha ... this car definately makes you work for greatness . Goood luck to everyone going racing . Tofu- It was your AWESOME driving skills that kept me diggin to get the best outa mine . Im getting rid of this chambered Edlebrock muffler , and bought the stuff to a mandrel 2.5 back off the resonator with the straight thru Borla Turbo XL muffler . Hopefully I can have the great weather we had a few times before it starts getting warm to test that . Next step for me after that is control arm bushings and a motors mount and a 3" pulley

I just found the sweet spot getting the car moving cleanly without really slipping the clutch . I have one short stretch of country road I go on every day to and from work , so I practiced alot out there and used the same technique at the track . My launch RPM is never over 1500 , for me anyways ....I just cant get it under control enuff at a higher launch RPM with the stock tires without majorly slipping the clutch . Right now for me its just one fluid motion of qwikly releasing the clutch and at the same easing in the throttle . There was jus lil room for error , if I tipped in a little too much on the throttle it just started wheel hopping . For the 1-2 shift , I had to kinda peddle the throttle just tiny bit ...If stayed to the wood on that shift I coulda pretty much spun all the way thru 2nd . Another thing that helped me , I followed the drag cars when I could If I lined up after a drag car went , after he did his big ol burnout with the slicks and got the starting line all hot and sticky ....it helped out immensely . Both 13 sec runs were ran just after a drag car made a pass . Just keep on practicing man , youll get there .

i have to say that you and tofu are really the only 2 people that are keeping me interested in the cobalt. I keep reading all these threads about track days and their horrible times with all their mods but you and tofu have broke 13's now with next-to-no mods. so you guys really are doing great. congrats!!!!
