Cobalt vs Cavalier at track
uhh i think this is a drivers race. I have alot of experienc with Cavaliers and Z24s racing at the drag strip. A stock Z24 with a good driver can pull a 15.3 without a problem. Also the Twin Cam Motor is a torque monster down low it is by no means slow off the line. The engine actually peakes its torque twice, once at 2400 RPMS and again at 4200 RPMS the engine reaches 155lbs of torque. The redline on the car is 6500 RPMS and it makes power all the way to the redline. Not to mention the Z24 prolly only weights around 2700-2800 lbs. It should trap around 95MPH stock. There is a reason GM used variations of the twin cam motor for over 20 years, its a strong solid motor and performs very well.
My 06 G5 GT is less than 100lbs heavier than my 96 Sunfire GT. And yeah, they did have good torque down low with 155lbs-ft on tap from 2400-4400rpm. Not 4200. Typical trap speeds are 86-88mph.
That being said, the 2.4 VVT feels tons more powerful than the LD9.
If you wanna know the redline here you go. My wrecked 98 Z24...

Red x got me, anyway it goes broken red at 5800 rpm and solid at 6300

edit-know that i think about it there are two guys on j-body.org running pretty stout all motor, one 2.2 eco and one 2.4 quad 4. the eco ran a 14.0 @97, the 2.4 quad 4 ran a 13.9 @97. So i'd like to know how you buddy ran with in 2 mph of these guys but well over a second slower with only an intake and motor mounts. I also saw where a guy with a sunfire GT (same as Z24) ran a 15.3 @89.

Well we'll see what happens, and btw I was mistaken before, redline is 6000rpm. We're prolly not going to get to the track for a few weeks but i'll post what happens
No offense you may have seen it but the track timers had to be screwed up. Calculated hp from the mph with a 2800lb weight gives it 190hp which is hard to believe with a 2.4 w/ only intake and motor mounts. Hp calculated by the et is 157 which is much easier to believe considering those mods.

I've been around J-bodys for a LOOOOOOOOOONG time, and its not unusual to see a stock J-body run as low as 15.1.
Here are the top "recorded" times for N/A J-bodys, courtacy of JCO. Spot number 1 is a semi professional driver.
C) 2.4 L Twin C am N/A
1. VIPERREDZED, 15.116@90.95
2. Modfire, 15.42@88mph
3. BlowBlackZ, 15.534@88.62mph
4. Nitro kid, 15.5421 @ 91.24mph
5. Xerman2001 15.64@87.74mph
It actually traps about 90MPH, Stock. with a good run. typical high 15 runs, they trap between 85-90MPH.

That still sounds strange, one guy going .3 and 3mph faster then the next closest time and only one guy doing it. He's .5 faster then someone with one of the top 5 times, reasoning comes into play here, i don't think anybody is that good of a driver. I'd like to see the slip sof those times as well to compare just sounds a lil to good to be true.
