First drag racing experience

Went drag racing at a local air strip for the first time. It was over 100 out with the sun beating down hard and my car was pulling about 6-7 degrees of ignition timing. My lainches were the worst part. First race against Mustang GT I wasn't paying attention to the tree and didn't even go until I heard the mustang''s tires screeching. Lowered my tire pressure a bit and started doing a little burnout instead of just driving through the water. I know thsee runs aren't that impressive but I thought you guys would appreciate a video anyways.

I was the only 4-cylinder car there. My base model Cobalt stuck out like a sore thumb against all the V8 muscle cars. Registration thought I was confused when I pulled in and pointed me towards the spectator entrance. Some people got quite a kick out of it though. No one really expected it to do as well as it did even though my launches were awful and my car was holding back power.

Looks like you did pretty decent and had a good time!

By not doing at least a little burnout after going through the water box, you're lining up with wet tires, not what you want.

Yeah I eventually decided lining up with wet tires definitely wasn't helping anything. It was a good time, thanks.

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-2l...thread-321284/ is the link to my build thread if you want to check it out in detail.

Main things for power:
-forged rods and pistons
-ZZP stiffer valve springs to redline at 7,500
-LT header with 2.5 catted/resonated exhaust (still sounds ricey)
-TVS 1320 supercharger with 2.9 pulley, dual pass end-plate on intake manifold, ZZP S3 heat exchanger
-50/50 meth/water injection (devilsown boost controlled)

Main components to prevent wheel hop:
-TC cobalt control arms with Powell trailing spherical CAB
-Powell F23 rotated trans mount

Stock block, head (except valve springs), transmission, axles

Ahh, TVS and meth lol. I was trying to figure out why they weren't pulling nearly as hard as they should. Can't even hear that supercharger. Nice kills.

Looks fun. Makes me want to try it sometime. Although I'd embarass myself launching.

Good quality videos.

It's all good, if nothing else you can pretend that you take off like you would if you weren't paying attn at a stop light and took off quicker. Try part is not spinning in 1st and 2nd. 3rd gear is fun.

Man that looks fun. Might be worth the 5 hour drive. Is this a once a year thing?

As far as I know. Supposedly this is the first year they brought it back after not doing it for a few. They hold these drag races right after their car show there in town. I heard about it by word of mouth as I am only an hour away. I think it is hardly promoted because when I was trying to find info on it there was only 1 little short paragraph on the whole interweb about it.

Thanks for the vicarious racing. It's been too long.

The last time I was out was five years ago in my bone-stock '07 SS/SC, so I feel you trying to pick on Muscle Cars. It just makes it that much more fun when you're able to put them away, though

Nice job.

Was 3 years ago but no time slips. Was just heads up racing at a local airstrip. Was a lot of fun. I will probably try to do some legitimate passes in my car once I get it back together and running properly and the AEM Infinity.
