First time!

Well last night was my first time at the strip. It was only an 1/8 mile track, but it was still fun. Will definitely go back for more street legal action at Sturgis Dragway. Once I get better I will go up there for the bracket racing on the weekends. I'll post my time slips later. Got 5 runs in for 20 bucks. Best time was a 10.19@72.57. Traction....there wasn't much of any. 50 degrees outside.

Decently done but you should be in the 9's in the 8th...with stage 2 and full exhaust I am running 9.4 at 77 with a 2.3 60'

Yeh the other cobalt got into the high 9's. Traction was a bitch. Cold track.

good job for doign it at the right place. dont think it was just traction if you were only trapping 72 though

This is what I was thinking..his trap speed was way low...stock I was trapping 74 or so running a 9.8ish 1/8th mile and the track I go to is at high elevation and they don't do **** for track prep for street fights.

Man, and I was hoping for 9's in my 2.4SS in the 1/8! I figured my SS was a 9 sec 8th mile car b/c my friends '05 Focus SE (2.0 liter/5-speed) ran a 10.2 at Sumerduck dragstrip, Sumerduck VA, with only a cat-back exhaust. Plus, he had his 18" Kazeras on, which would slow him down if anything. Only other mods he had at the time was H&R springs and a Focus Sport shifter. Hmmm......what gives? An SS/SC should be MUCH faster than his measly Focus. Traction issues hurt an 1/8 mile that THAT much??

You should be able to hit 9's. I ran 9.6's-9.7's w/ I/T/E ( a very cheap exhaust at that) trappin 74-75mph. Thats with 2.3 60's. Get yours tuned and i'm sure you can run better then that.

Have to remember though elevation plays an extreme roll when going to the track. My 9.4@77 could have been at least a flat 9 or 8.9 probably at sea level.

definitely wouldnt hit 9 flat in stock form. 9.2 is the fastest i have seen ever <---- this guy, haha! but maybe someone has gotten it lately. maybe it would be you if indeed your calculations are correct.

anyway, mid to low 9's will be expected when the original poster gets more runs in.

pretty good time though for your first time ever at a track. its a whole different ball game there.

to give you an idea of a completely stock 07 ss/sc ill post my 1/8 times. not sure how much of a difference the track conditions were/are compared to the one you raced at but, time of day was 630pm to 800pm ~@80 degrees. track i raced at was Greatlakes Dragway close to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for extra info.

1st run ever at a track: R/T .791 1/8=10.428 @ 71.96
2nd run: R/T .662 1/8=10.004 @ 72.45
3rd run: R/T .107 and then the clutch started smoking so i shut down

Next time its cold like that burn those tires up and you will get better traction...that is a neat pic you posted. I can't wait any longer, if my clutch/flywheel does not come soon I'm going to freaking pull my hair out.

Sweet. Yeah GTP's friend Dan is gonna dyno tune/af tune mine on a dyno with HP Tuners, along with my injector swap. With the stock wheels on (not the 19"s) I'd love to get around a 9.5.

9.5's are def possible. I was on the verge of them last year when it started to rain and you have a much better exhaust then i had ( full header back vs a cheap axleback). Just a lil fyi i was launching around 2500 with some clutch slip pullin high 2.2-low2.3 60fts.

DOn't worry. My first time at the track was an 1/8. I ran a 10.4 for the first pass. I almost lost to a 2.2 cobalt. I would have had to turn in my keys. You just need to practice getting off of the line better. Feather the clutch of the line and you won't have the bog or spin complex. That is what I do.

clintwood is 1700ft elevation
1700ft correction factors for boosted cars on the 1/4 mile
ET: .9938 Trap: 1.0061
assuming a 14.5 1/4 mile....its actually only worth 0.1seconds over the full quarter mile.

The yellow one is mine so I like also LOL. I ran a 9.9 that night. Other nights I have gone 9.7 stock. Whe I get up there again I will have my stage two so we shall see how it goes then.

Yeh elevation there is 3000 something...I will def get better the next time I go up there. I could see a big omprovement just over the 5 runs I did that night. My R/T's sucked ass so that's really what I have to work on....that and spinning the tires in first gear.
