Smile first track day in my SS

alright so i got the chance to make a couple of runs in my 05 SS with no mods. ill give you guys the best times. this was only a 1000 foot track and this particular run was only timed to the 1/8 mile. however it was a damn good run, and i beat a modded eclipse because of my hole shot which made it all the sweeter.

eclipse------------------------me
.9118--------reaction-------.6750
2.3192------60 foot--------2.2991
6.1414------330 foot------6.2870
9.3434------1/8 ET--------9.5233
76.96-------1/8 MPH------76.44
----------------------------WINNER

this was in humid 75 degree weather and it was just freaking awesome to beat this guy because his friends were there with a laptop and what not tuning it and this was my first time drag racing, and got the win lights, sweet... i will be tying to upload the vids

i dont know too much about drag racing, but by the looks of it, the eclipse won the race... you just had a better reaction time and a better 60 foot.. how does that win?

Lets look at the numbers:
0.9118 R/T
- 0.6750

= 0.2368 seconds advantage for the SS off the start (thats how long the other guy is sitting there before he goes---so the SS is already ahead)

2.3192 60 ft
2.2991

= 0.0201 seconds advatage for the SS

add those numbers up:

0.2368+ 0.0201= 0.2569

Now subtract the two times they ran
9.3434------1/8 ET--------9.5233 = 0.1799

Lastly(whew!) 0.2569-0.1799= 0.077 seconds that is the DIFFERENCE in time that the two cars were apart when they crossed the line.

Basically in simple terms: The Cobalt won due its superior reaction times and to a less extent the 60ft times. The Eclipse was chasing him all the way down the track. Now if the Eclipse were a tiny bit faster hw would have caught and passed him.

Now thats what I call a RACE! You have some real talent with that car hatrickstu!!

I knew the car was capable of good 60ft times but thats the trick isn't it?

Now go to a 1/4 mile track!

all that math was for nothing....look at the E/T....the eclipse beat him by 2 tenths of a second.....although it was a great run for a stock SS/SC. I'm not hating since i got an SS/SC too.....but the eclipse still beat him.....

whoever crosses the finish line first, wins. therefore, the ss won because it crossed first. if the guy in the eclipse had a better reaction time, he would have won. but he didn't.

No----the SS won. The Eclipse is faster but lost due to sleeping at the line

but, u guys are wrong.. the one with the faster time wins.. who cares who crossed quicker.. reaction time has nothing to do with your time, the clock starts AFTER you cross the starting line.. i race at that track every now and then and that's how they do things in the races, just like everywhere else.. except the street.. i ran my car last night, but i wont reveal my times hahaha

Yes the Eclipse is faster car but in this race he lost the race for all the reasons I explained. The Coblat beat him to the finsih. Clock starts when you break the beam with the front tires.

but it didnt start for the eclipse.. therefore, in bracket racing and all other division racing out there, it would be classified as a win for the eclipse.. who wants to see my time slip?

i'm not saying you're wrong, he did beat the eclipse to the end.. which would yield a win in Test-N-Tune on most occasions.. i'm just letting him know, in case he joins the import class or bracket racing one day

i dont get it ... if it was a race against numbers, why even bother lining up just two cars at a track ... why not build a 4 lane track and let people go when they want ... they line people up to race not enter an exam for a math class ... then there is this whole thing about so you beat THAT car oh well if the driver was better blah blah blah ... bottom line to the race or any that are done with two cars lined up is that its a race against two drivers and their cars and thats where it ends ... first one to the finish wins ... its both a race against the cars and the skill of the drivers on the line ... you sleep you lose ... calculating a win using mathematical terms is just like mag racing (retarded) ... put up or shut up as the old saying goes ... props for the win man and future luck to yah

No, if that was a bracket race the Cobalt would have won by even a bigger margin. The cobat would be dialed in with a slower time and thus leave the line even faster then the eclipse.

Your track stops at 1000? That is bizarre. What would this translate to in 1/4 mile?

anyway man, c'mon....SCAN it!

anybody can make up good numbers. let's see some proof. i call BS, the only chevy pulling an 11.15 in the 1000ft is an LS1 or better. MAYBE an LT1 with some decent bolt-on mods no SS/SC is running that. i havent seen one even break into the 11's at that track yet.

and BTW, i go to the same track. its a 1000ft track with an 1/8th mark off. test n tunes are usually the whole 1000ft. its not a huge track but its all we got around here. 1/4 times are a "guesstimated" 2-2.5 seconds more than the 100ft time, but its all speculation. only way to really prove it is by hitting a 1/4 track.
