GMS1 at the Track
Okay guys, I got my car out to the track last night with what I feel are mixed results, so I'll let you all decide if I should be happy or not...
A little background. I was at the track once when I was stock. I ran ~14.1s on average, going from a 13.98 to a 14.8. I think I was trapping, on average, just over 100mph, probably about 102mph or so. So, I got the stage kit and felt the butt dyno and immediately thought that I would be getting 13.5s, easy. My car dyno'd at 286whp and 325wtq, so I dunno. Conditions at the track were pretty good, I thought, but then again, I have only ever raced twice now, so what do I know?
So, first pass was a 13.9s, trapping 105. I felt cheated. Next two passes were in the 13.7s, trapping 106mph. I'm at work now so I don't have my timeslips with me, but my best time was a 13.71 at 106mph. Funny thing was, I pull up to a brand new mustang gt, and smoked him. He ran a 14.1 ish. I also pulled up to a mustang mach1 and smoked him. And then a corvette pulled up next to me and ran a 12.33. Ouch. I guess the 'Balt isn't quite up to beating his big brother yet. But, after I ran the GT, he came to me and said all his buddies were giving him **** for losing to me and when he pulled up and saw he was racing me, his wife said something along the lines of, "oh, look at that car, you'll smoke him easily." Apparently he told his wife "don't be so sure, those cars are quick" or something along those lines. He was pretty cool. I guess the 4door grocery getter is still stealth.
Anyways, I really thought 13.5's were attainable. It was funny car night at the track so I didn't get too many passes, and my car started to get too hot. Coolant temp is normally ~192F and it was getting up to ~215F. I noticed something rather funny too, is that my boost would suddenly drop when the coolant temp got too high, which I think was killing my times, because I ran a couple other times in the 13.9 range when my boost was dropping. It would hold at 20psi, then suddenly drop to 13psi. I can only assume it was the temps, because when I let it cool down I ran again and was back in the 13.7s range.
Thoughts?

Also curious about your boost dropping, because 215 isn't hot in this car. Unless they radically changed the tune, it will only pull a little timing when coolant is over 225 (1-2*).

13.2 with just a K&N drop in and the stage I kit??? Thats awsome!! Yeah.. just keep the practice up and you will see alot of improved times. I was consistant 2.2 60' @ 110 degrees F. So, HOT! LOL.. but once it cooled of.. started to hit 13's stock. Dyno at the front wheels with that much HP/TQ is awsome! The aftermarket tunes are perhaps a tiny but higher, but we have factory warrenty. They say "ghost tune" but I'm not rich enough to take that chance. Good post. Keep us up to date on your improvements and gains! 13.7 and not alot of driving time is very exciting to hear. Best of luck.

So, since I've been to the strip twice now, can I get some advice from some of you on how to best drop my 60 time? At this point I'm basically hold 3k rpm and letting the clutch out slowly through 1st, the NLS into 2nd and WOT all the way through 2nd. Is it just practice to control wheel spin better or perhaps something more?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks. Yea, I am also on stock clutch to. I am only getting 1.9 60 foot times. I think I can get 11's but have to wait till next season now. Probably have to get a clutch tho. It is hard to I am somewhere around 92mph in the 8th, but the turbo dies off so much up top that I cant gain any more speed. My normal traps are 113.

THAT'S what I'm talkin about! Great run. I've always believed the stock Contis were a capable tire. You proved it. I suspect you aren't new to drag racing. Thanks. Now I wonder if some lighter wheels would help also. I'm looking into the new Enkei sports wheel. There should be some more info on it in the next week or two. It's an 18X8 and it clears the Brembos. Supposed to weigh less than 16#. Interesting.
