Going for 11's for the second time Imports v. Domestics

Well for the second legit time, im going out for 11's stock turbo, full interior all that! last time out i got down to 12.008, this time it will be about 40 degrees cooler so im hoping for possibly 11.8 or maybe 11.7 if the planets are aligned right.

Anyone that is available should come down to MIR in Southern Maryland to Imports v. Domestics this weekend, Friday-Sunday all day. Im trying to get us Cobalts some credit on a big stage. over 20000 people show up to this event every year.

Slip from last time at the strip :twothumbs

As long as you can still hook as hard as you did last time with the cooler weather you got this! Good luck man.

EXsoccer1921 10-31-2012 10:02 PM

i'll have a few friends out there. they only one has a cobalt though

Sox-Fan 10-31-2012 10:03 PM

What are the wheels and tires that you are using?

2010SS 10-31-2012 10:16 PM

Some cheap things and m and h slicks

Sox-Fan 10-31-2012 10:20 PM

17's?

EXsoccer1921 10-31-2012 10:21 PM

verde protocols?

2010SS 10-31-2012 10:26 PM

15 and yes I believe so

EXsoccer1921 10-31-2012 10:28 PM

don't forget a 2nd gear burnout. you should be pulling 1.7's with those tires and the ko4 powerband.

or are you on a different turbo?

2010SS 10-31-2012 10:37 PM

Stock turbo.. Half the runs are 1.7 half are 1.8 I also have an ottp mount that's almost a full circle bc the bushing is destroyed... Haven't repaired that yet.. No footballs no straps just straight racing

SK360 11-01-2012 09:45 AM

Can't wait for this weekend. Will be watching for you, good luck!

I'm hoping for a 12.0 my self. Running 12.50 index tho

2010SS 11-01-2012 10:08 AM

Well that 12 won't do much good in 12.50... Lol

damastah 11-01-2012 10:14 AM

Lol. So is your car considered an import ? Or domestic ? Lol Jk

An those are some good numbers. How much boost you running? E85 50/50 mix?

No 12.0 index, I won't be able to compete in 11.5 or any of the heads up classes so I am going to have to try and slow down for eliminations.

Honestly I just want some good passes in good air at a phenomenal track like MIR.

2010SS 11-01-2012 11:13 AM

If you make a qualifying pass at 12.0 will they still allow u to compete in 12.5? I'm not sure

Plus to 11.5 and you can line up with me

SK360 11-01-2012 11:41 AM

I should be fine for 12.50... if I break out in the elims then thats on me. If they make me run 11.50 then I guess I will have to.

EXsoccer1921 11-01-2012 03:48 PM

you'll be fine going 12.0 in a 12.5 class. bring a buddy with you and have them watch what times other people are making in their passes and write them down. i bet you won't be the only person going under the index.

and if you go against a car that can 60' you and you're playing catch up just a word of advice, i'd rather take the stripe and have the chance of breaking out than trying to pedal it and end up not getting by them.

SK360 11-01-2012 10:04 PM

Looks like I'm screwed anyway. Changing oil in the corvette tonight noticed the drivers front tire was corded on the inside edge. I just bought the car in August and just had it inspected 3 weeks ago, this was missed many times. Called a ton of places looking for a 245/40/18 tonight and no one has them on hand.

Put the corvette in the Garage and connected the battery tender. It's done for the winter.

Will be coming down to watch friends still, bringing our 2013 escape instead now.

damastah 11-01-2012 10:58 PM

ugh... all my friends want me to go to this event... but my car is not tuned for the track... LOL!

i will be lucky if i run 12s with such a bottom base slow tune....

btw, i was the other red SS/TC at the college park meet in bowie... the one in the Turbo XS booth

damastah 11-01-2012 11:04 PM

thinking about running e47

Nfamous60 11-02-2012 01:38 PM

you runnin 15's with stock brembo's??

cmiller8006 11-02-2012 04:20 PM

No. It is impossible unless you have about a three inch spacer.

I was thinking the same when I read the answer. Came to the conclusion that for some reason he didn't want to tell me or perhaps it's not me, but just a super secret setup, so I let it drop.

dayhoff35 11-02-2012 07:31 PM

he has lsj brakes lol

cmiller8006 11-02-2012 07:49 PM

Yea it's all over the drag section. Lsj brakes, a little grinding and some soft side walled tires on 15" rims

fair enough.

Dart_SI 11-02-2012 08:32 PM

I love how our cars are capable of low 12's with bolt ons. If the ss/tc didnt come with brembos i bet there would be much faster times everywhere. I for one am too lazy to swap to lsj brakes. lol

Its something you just have to do lol. I still think about putting the brembos back on, but then there goes traction.

well that says it all, lol

Nfamous60 11-03-2012 03:04 AM

how small can you go on the brembos' i doubt i would want to swap caliipers that often myself... how much brake performance is lost for those who swapped to lsj's??

You can manage a certain few of 17 inch rims over the brembos. From stock ss/tc brakes to lsj brakes with good rotors and high performance pads there is little to no difference as far as dd goes. If your looking to road race I am sure there will be a difference there.

Bullybully 11-04-2012 10:27 PM

Hippo and I went by your car SEVERAL times today and didn't see you!

Also when we left - We noticed a HUGE dent in the rear fender on the drivers side. DON'T remember seeing that during the day. There was a huge diesel truck on slicks parked next to it for quite a while. I REALLY hope that already happened and we didn't notice it before.. otherwise we think maybe they backed out and whacked your car. :(

SO sorry if you had to walk back to your car and just find that. :( Seriously hoping thats not the case.

Hippo 11-04-2012 10:34 PM

Had a TON of friends racing there today. Kayla and I saw your car there 2010SS, must of visited it 5 times during the day today, but never saw you with it. You have a facebook? I can put you into some local groups.

You don't happen to know right off the top of your head which 17's will clear, do you? :D

Or a thread where some are listed? :twothumbs

cmiller8006 11-04-2012 10:47 PM

I have not tried it but the ss/na wheels are said to fit with a three mm spacer. The wheels I had fit and worked well but needed a 10mm spacer, back spacing was not good for the brembos.

Sox-Fan 11-04-2012 10:50 PM

I'll have to look into that. 17's might increase my potential tire choices over the 18's. If nothing else it'll at least give me a little bit more sidewall to play with.

TX.SS.TC 11-04-2012 10:50 PM

What mods do you have 2010SS?

Any clutch/axle upgrades?

thedubsack85 11-04-2012 11:00 PM

So did you make it into the 11's? And ion redline 17 inch wheels fit no mod's/spacers needed to clear brembo's!
