Going for my first track run! Question!
Hey Y'all!,
Tomorrow I am going for my first track run at Gimli Dragway. And I have a few questions. What should I do to get the best time possible for a stock 07 SS/SC? What RPM for the best launch? Should I deflate the tires a bit for a better launch if? If so how much PSI? Windows up/down? Best way to cool the engine down after runs? Shold i spray the intercooler with water before a race? Damn i am excited I have been practicing all week in empty industrial lots at night? Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks,

1st- I know a lot of places wont let you race with the windows down
2nd- Yes lower the tire pressure probably to about 15, thats what I ran in my ss/sc
3rd- Mise well go into the water box and warm the tires up a little
4th- I would do a 2k launch thats what seem to work for me, but were all different
5th- Have fun and dont beat up on yourself if you run a shitty time
6th- For time I'm gonna say 14.5 but thats just me throwing it out there
Also according to your sig, your not stock just sayin'

run with about a 1/4 tank of gas. slightly over inflate the rear tires. take out anything
that's not needed (that comes out easily lol). meaning jack, spare tire etc., etc..

front tires 21-22psi. a street tire should NEVER go below 20psi. especially when you paln on going as fast as you can down a track...
rear tires to 45psi.
take out passenger seat, rear seat, rear seat back rest, any loose **** in your trunk, just empy the car out.
i'm not sure if you'v ebeen to the track before since you say this is your first time racing, if you have not been to the track before sit in the stands and watch a couple runs to get the flow of things and see how it all works.
go around the water box, do not go through it. you will not be able to get the water out from the grooves of the tires and it'll get onto the track causeing other people to spin, get pissed, and probably take it out on you. i've seen it happen.
do not "burn" out the tires. simply give them a quick spin just like cmiller said. more of a "peel" out to clean off debris from the staging lanes and pick up a little VHT.
when its time to stage. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT YOUR REACTION TIME!!!!! i cannot stress that enough for people who go to test n tunes or whatever and try to cut a good light while expecting awesome times.. if you try and cut a light and you aren't accustomed to launching the car. you WILL **** up your run.
after you light both stage bulbs. hold the rpms at about 2000-2250. and when you launch do not instantly drop the clutch. and do not instantly go wide open. it'll take a few runs to get down what works for you and your car to get the best 60' and 330' possible. i made 15 passes my first time at the track. first one was a 15.2, and they progressively got better till i was hitting 14.22x's every time with 2.0 60' times.
lastly. forget everything you "practiced" in that industrial parking lot.
oh and also. a little bit a frack safety and courtesy. if the turn off lanes are on the left side of the track and you are making a pass in the right lane. if you beat the car in the left lane. give him the right of way to whatever turn off lane he wants. i've witnessed an 8sec notchback mustang street car t bone a minivan at the street legal drags cause the mustang had problems during the launch and finally launched when the van was at the ~700' mark. the van then turned left to exit the track and the mustang plowed into him.
so, if you're in the opposite lane that the exits are. give the other guy the right of way. hell i've even stopped on the track before because i didn't know what the other guy was doing. i just stopped. let him go by, and then turned off.
if you feel like it. this is what i mean by empty the car out.
and here is a video i took of one of my runs. go around the water box. i backed up a little to give me room. then spin 1st a little bit. then stage and launch. just...ignor the whole missing 3rd gear part

No water box on street tires and no 2000 rpm launches unless you feel like hating your car. 1500 rpm max is what I launch at, making sure to keep tire spin at a minimal in 1st gear by peddling the throttle. I ran a 14.7 my first time out and by the end of that year I was running 14.2-14.3s, as long as I was on my game, a dozen times when I was stock. DO NOT LET THE CLUTCH FLY ON STREET TIRES!!!

Your going to be nervous, just go in understanding that your first run will most likely be a **** up and just have fun
Ps. I ran an 18 in my tiburon the first time because my launch was a bigger burnout then be trying to do a burnout before I staged

Yep. The rpms build fast in 1st. If you pay attention to the tach, shift at 6000 from 1st to 2nd next time. It will you help you stay away from the limiter.
