Great Street race story!
This is from my best friend that i sold my ImpalaSS to, great stuff!
Here is an email from a guy I didn't even know I worked with. This email he sent his fellow engineers after our lunch break street race.
Lunch Guys -
I can't remember who it was that I was talking to (I think it may have been
Joe and Rains?).
Anyhow, remember a black Impala SS with a red sticker across the top of the
windows? I remember arguing that it was front wheel drive, while someone
else said it looked newer...
At any rate, I saw it after lunch, heading in the same direction down 10th.
I let him pass me (leisurely) on 10th at Cossell, but I couldn't resist
continuing on 10th (besides, I needed fuel anyhow, so may as well go to the
Speedway at Grande). At the red light in front of the plant, I tried to
tell him that it sounded mean (good). I left at a regular pace, hoping he
would bite.
He bit, alright, at which point, I couldn't help but punch it, to show him
what a 300 all wheel horsepower 4-banger does to front wheel drive V-6
family-wagons. Needful to say, I heard him catching up... I caught third,
and he continued to pass... at which point, he pulled into the Allison lot
north of the plant. I think I even saw him take an "Eagle" stamp out and
placed another kill on his door.
Smoked by a grocery-getter with a child seat in the back? Ouch.
Come to find out, his name is Jamie and he works in the Warranty department up front.
His car? 11.90s. Sweet.

Jamie - It was nice to meet you after having seen your car a few times. I
must admit, my guess was that your car would run 13.8 in the quarter at
best. It's nice to know that I raced the fastest Impala SS Fwd in North
America, albeit a loss. I won't say "next time..." as I know at this
point, I'll never hit elevens.
Take Care,
By the way the car was an eagle talon all wheel drive with 300 horsepower. Runs 12.8s Just a good story I thought I would share.
