look up the sticky for wheels that fit the SS/TC.

SS/2.4L & HHR wheels have been proven to fit.

what you're looking for is actually called a "drag radial"

to be a true slick you need alot more than a 35~45 series sidewall

245 Drag radials mounted on SS/SC wheels with spacers;

stock TC front brakes = cannot run slicks
on the other hand there's these options;

stock TC front brakes = can run drag radial
or

LT2 front brakes (w/ shaved outer edge of caliper) = can run slicks

i want the slicks to bad and i know the difference between the two. thats y i specified what i was trying to find in my initial post. I will just run these goodyear 18" dot leagals. ill just call my man benny at goodyear and see if he can custom oreder me a special compound instead of the regualr gay **** like hes done for my supra.

like I said, it comes down to the sidewall;
a real slick needs more sidewall, and needs the ability to flex in ways that regular street (especially the smaller aspect ratio) tires cannot do becasue of the steel reinforcement...

a "dot legal" tire just means it passes the bare minimum to be driven on the streets;
a true drag radial tire uses the same compound as a slick...

Drag Radials do not use the same compound as a real slick, the sidewalls are much stiffer and hard on the drivetrain. You cannot compare a Slick with anything called a Radial

You can clear Brembos with Slicks (Me, Cmiller8006, Beast10007) will all confirm this

Clears the Brembos

Just an FYI 17" ion redline wheels also clear the brembos.

A drag radial is a combination of a street tire construction with a competition tire's rubber;
the smaller side wall requires more plies inbetween the layers of said sidewall;
the strength in the sidewall is what allows the 40-ish series sidewall to begin with...

Stepping back for a moment here, maybe you and I have a different concept or understanding of the word "slick";

It's just come to my attention that some people call any dedicated competition/track tire which has no tread pattern a "slick" ~ where as in my mind's eye;
slick = Drag slick (aka: wrinkle wall slick)
(source: wikpiedia)

I am by no means the kind of guy who gets his lingo or knowledge from the internet ~ most of it is first hand... like my old neighbors who introduced me to drag racing

Both of my sets of drag radials use what seems to be the same rubber compound as the slicks I have - so maybe when I used the word "compound" you thought I was meaning "construction"??

I seem to recall that last year I was reading of Cmiller doing the brake swap to run a 15" rim with a dedicated slick... or maybe it was a 16" rim??
I am certain I recall seeing him shave the outward lip off the caliper for clearance...

I looked on Mickey Thompson's site and could not find any 17" slick-type, err, tread-absent tire... those are Mickey Thompsons right?

I actually haven't got a clue where to find a slick for anything larger than a 15" rim right now... and to the best of my knowledge to run a 15" rim, the Brembos have to go.

At first I did have a 17 and keep the brembos. But the best and only way to do it in my eyes now is the swap to lsj brakes and 15 inch wheels.

Are the NT05's considered a drag radial?! I didn't think they were.

There is a NT05 R now which is a Drag Radial
There is also a NT555 R which is a Drag Radial

I am going to be swapping my brakes over for track days and going with a 15" slick from now on

If anyone is interested in my 17" Rim and Drag Slick setup let me know, nicely broken in

The NT01 is not a Drag Radial its more of a AutoX tire

If you want a good deal on a set of Full Slicks and Rims i will give you a good price
