helpfull track tips

So i took my 07 ss/sc to the track last night and didn't do nearly as well as I though i would!!! I didnt do any weight reduction or anything but on ran 14.959. I spun so incredable much that it was even funny!!! With my mods i should be hitting around 14 flat. This was my first track day but does anyone have any hints to pick up my 1/4. BTW it was fairly cold and the track was a little slippery!!!

If you post your slip info and mods (unless a CAI is all you have) we could break down your run....what was your 60' time...your MPH and the 1/8 mile time/ET.

Well traction mods are the best, you have to get your 60' lower.

Also, might watch your temps too see if you are losing power up top when it heat soaks

With a CAI and muffler(?), he MIGHT get low 14s. Learning to launch always helps but who knows what is realy happening with out a slip.

tips for you is when in 1st gear only use half throttle or a little more. i don't understand people who spin the tires up and think there going fast. it slows you down so much it's not even funny. going half throttle you feel like your going slow but your going to be going faster trust me. noise isn't everything

Yep, it is better to bog a little than spin a lot.

i don't even bog. just go off the line slowly like you were at a stop sign or something but just a little quicker. don't bog. just slip the clutch and start to give it half throttle. do not let the tires spin.

I ment bogging a little is the lesser of the 2 evils.

A "perfect" launch will have just a little spin as the tires are pulling you forward. You will never develope the throttle control nessisary to do this if you start off with the wheels spinning though. Even at the track I have to be careful when I go to full throttle in first to avoid breaking lose.

Just remember....SMOOTH is FAST. If you are spinning tires or screatching tires, you are wasting time. Like it was posted b4, you dont have to go ***** to the walls in first gear.

thats what im getting since i got wheel hop. but i wouldnt get them if your just peeling out.

Btw burning tires never helps, i always get a bit jumpy off the line because i get impatient and go full throttle a bit early,

that is what it nets you. Mind you the track was drizzled on a couple times but still isnt fun.

ekks. i feel people who mod there cobalts should just practice driving in stock form first. i may be different than some people but first time i took my car to the track and the first run down ever with the car being brand new after i bought it from the dealership i ran 14.535 (have the time slips if you really want proof even though that isn't anything special) that was with no clutch slip no nothing. not even powershifting. just shifting quick and flooring it off the line.

once i got gm stage 2 and 2.8 pulley on i ran 13.8

i think people just need to practice nailing the times they should then slowly upgrade. otherwise if you take a driver you can't get 14.6 or better with a stock ss/sc and give them power they will just get a worse time if not never ever get lower than a 14. those are my feelings towards this situation. if it is that hard then put stock pulley on with gm stage 2 and just keep practicing until you can nail the times this car should be hitting from the factory. then start dropping pullies and learn how to deal with wheel hop (let off the gas) or wheel spin (slip the clutch more or don't go full throttle)

just my 2cents
