Hoosier D.O.T. Drag radials

I did a search and didn't find any info on here about Hoosier's "new" 245/45-17 dot dr's. I say new because they haven't really been out to long. Has anyone used them? All I know about them is that the awd and rwd guys love them. Originally from what I have read a company called 9sec9.com bought the entire first run of these tires to get them made.

I know its a small wheel but I plan on putting them or the nitto 245/45-17's dr on a ss/na wheel. I figured they would be fine for track use on such a small wheel width. I am running 245/40-18's on my stock wheels now with no issues what so ever. I think these could be a great dr for the ss/tc guys or guys with the brembo brake conversion. What do you guys think?

It's a good tire..

ralliartist 05-18-2010 03:08 AM

Those are good tires, just a tad tall. It will hurt your gearing a little. Make sure you get a decent offset wheel or they may rub your suspension.

beast10007 05-18-2010 10:17 AM

hey try them out I was looking in to buying them now that I am tuned but I have BFG's that where on my old eclipse now I have am selling them to buy these. My buddies FWD eclipse with 375whp can cut a 1.85 60ft I let him use my old tire and he could only get a 1.91 with the BFG's
these tires will trap a MPH or 2 lower:thumbsdow

hatrickstu 05-18-2010 10:23 AM

i think they would help alot. i plan on running them in a 24.5 inch tall 16 inch wheels setup

mongorat427 05-18-2010 12:38 PM

I have the Nitto 275/40R17 NITTO 555Rs which are 10.9 inchs wide and 25.5 tall which is close to stock hight on 9 inch wheels. My everyday tires are NTO1 255/40ZR17 which are 25 inchs tall and 10.3 inchs wide on 8 inch wheels.

Do those 275's rub at all.

mongorat427 05-18-2010 07:03 PM

Not at the drag strip. I dont use them on the street

Billy Baldone 05-18-2010 07:29 PM

Hmmm. What wheels are you using?

mongorat427 05-18-2010 08:36 PM

Drag DR 31 17 x 9 37mm offset. Remember Im 5x114.3 bolt pattern. They are 1/2 inch wider on inside and 1/2 on outside

Thanks for all the input guys! I think the offset on the ss/na wheels will be good to go as far as rubbing goes. I just hope the contact patch won't suffer by using such a big tire on a 7" wide wheel. The 245's on my stock ss/tc wheels look perfect for a 7.5" wheel so I am hoping the -.5" won't be a big deal. I know the width will vary slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer for, but will be a good indicator this will be just fine.

Bump for more opinions.

RBC 05-22-2010 11:40 PM

Anyone else?

buellfooll 05-23-2010 10:05 AM

Wish I could find a descent LIGHT 17" wheel for my TC.

RBC 05-23-2010 10:48 AM

Yea me to, but im on a budget so that's why im going with the ss/na wheels. They are out there but im sure they are not cheap. There is an entire ss/tc wheel thread on here that list wheels that people have tried so far. The problem with the 17's is that other than us and the few people that want 17" winter tires not many people try them out. Over a year ago I went to discount tire and out of every single 17 they had in stock and 4 ordered sets not a one fit.:thumbsdow I gave up.

Run a 24.5x8.5x15 M and H. Very many FWD cars in the 600-900hp range running them.

RBC 06-19-2010 11:31 PM

Well I just ordered a pair from Discount Tire and they will be here on Tuesday. They price matched to $210 a piece. I won't get to test them out for a couple of weeks due to being so busy, but I can't wait to see what kind of 60's I can pull. Lets just hope the stock clutch and tranny will hold up.

RBC 06-22-2010 08:58 PM

Well they are here, I just need to go pick them up!:twothumbs

Kildore 06-22-2010 09:14 PM

link us to these tires ..

WhiTeLs3 06-23-2010 05:04 PM

Your not gonna get anything better than that tire in a drag radial.

Only thing comparable is....

Nitto NTO5R
Mickey Thompsons which are prob a little stickier imo

All 3 are actually very very good DRS
