how do you burn out?
how do you burn out?
Proper FWD burnout technique.
1. Request water to be sprayed on the box. Unless it was just sprayed for the previous car. Stop before the box and point at it until they get the message you want some god damn water. Don't move onto the box until they put the god damn water on the god damn box. This volunteer is your bitch and he or she is gonna put the god damn water on the god damn box because your FWD econobox needs it.
2. Put front tires in the water box.
3. Push clutch pedal to the floor.
4. Put car in 2nd gear. 1st gear burnouts are useless to build real heat, but good to clear off debris. [1st gear burnouts are for noobs. Suggest you practice using 1st gear then move onto 2nd gear.]
5. Push button on e-brake and hold button down while lifting e-brake upwards as hard as possible.
6. KEEP HOLDING THE DAMN E-BRAKE AND THE E-BRAKE BUTTON. CRANK THE ****! If you have a rear brake linelock, engage it.
7. Rev engine to 5000-6000 rpm, drop clutch and feather throttle as required to keep RPM between 5200 to redline area.
8. After a few seconds, 5 would be a long time, release the e-brake gradually (but fairly quickly).
9. As the car pulls away, slowly release pressure from gas pedal.
10. Well after you have pulled away and your RPM are now very low, depress clutch and put your other foot on the brake to stop.
11. Stage. Put it in first gear now you NooB.
12. Now you're ready to run your 14+ second quarter mile.
(found on a local srt forum, laughed my ass off)
oh and p.s. dont do this with street tires

Nice
EDIT: New #8 for us Cobalts
8. Cry like a little girl when your pass. axle snaps like a toothpick, leaving you broken down in the staging lanes, with everyone, including the announcer laughing at you

if you do that on street tires. you need to be killed by everyone who is at the track.
seriously.
for those with slicks. do NOT sit in the water box. pop the clutch to get the tires cover in water. pull up to the edge of the box. do your burn out. you're not john force. stop it.
stage. break something.
cry
call tow truck.

I usually pull through the puddle to the upward slope leaving the waterbox, its usually plenty wet, and the incline also helps to stop the car pulling forward during the burnout.
also it should be noted, this was written by a guy who runs very low 11s in his srt4 at 4000ft DA

Not only is it pointless on streets, but you bringing water down the track in your treads won't be much fun for the big boys.
the absolute best time to run, is right after the big tire cars make some passes. if you have to ask why, you need to learn more about drag racing

if you're on a gravely track/return road. pull around the water box. rotate the tires a couple times. no burnouts, nothing major. stage. break something. cry.

I always found that spinning the crap off the tires helped with streets.
I know I will get some flack for this but.....................On my mustang, on falken Ze502 street tires, if I do a full 5 second 2nd gear burnout to warm them up, I would 60 ft 2.00, if I didn't warm them up, I could only 60 ft 2.15ish.
I also have a friend with a 2002 SS with a 3,500 stall on street tires (yeah I know, retarded). He does a really long burnout on street tires, and he 60 fts 1.90!!! If he doesn't do a burnout he can't hook at all.
I know I know, thats not how street tires are supposed to work, but I'm just telling you real world data.
