Launching on slicks!!

alright guys dialing the car in on sunday, and my 15's showed up and ive shaved my calipers down and also just got a call from M&H slicks are enroute on monday. Im going to virginia motrosports park on the 30th to try and achieve some fast times with the TVS. My question is, im a hell of a drag racer and have cut some of the best 60' times on this platform. almost a 1.9 when i ran my 13.1 @ 107 with the M62, but this was on street tires.

BUT this is the first time im running on slicks and from talking to some of my buddies who are really experienced with slicks say that my driving style that i had to use on street tires isnt gonna cut it. I would usually leave around 1900rpms, slip the clutch and feather the gas for traction. Since i would like my gmp clutch to hold up to the slicks i know i wont be able to slip the clutch itll be an on off deal (side stepping) im thinking about trying to launch at 3000rpms and see where to go from there. Cmiller and frasier i know you guys have run good 60' times and et times on slicks so what are yalls advice. And ahead of time im NOT worried about breaking the car i have a fully enclosed trailer with me to tow her back if need be im going all out thanks in advance

I would start at 3k if you want but you will most likely end up launching from higher. When I was at the track I couldnt get my car to stay in the water box since my brakes are shot so I could only get like a 2 second burnout But I would bet if you can get the tires warm it will hook easy from 4k even

Well if your not affraid of breaking things, than rev it up and let it go lol. I was upto 5600rpms on the launch but thats on a turbo, you just have to play with it. You will be able to tell when it starts working right. Like infra said, I would start at like 3-3500 and go from there, if you will only get a few runs then start like 35-4000rpms

thanks guys thats what i figured. Results will definately be posted since there are a few on here that are coming with me. If i can just figure out why the bypass valve is bleeding boost off at 22psi which i will find out sunday when we do the bypass mod, then itll be good times. Im hoping the GMP clutch doesnt hate me when slicks go on lol

Your less likely to break something launching a little high and spinning the slicks and launching too low. I'm sure you know to load the car.

You load the car when you launch? Like do you get the boost level up or no?

hes talking more so launching at a lower rpm, having the slicks hook and bog the car down. That kind of stress isnt good for the drivetrain or the motor either same concept as not spraying nitrous at too low of an rpm

Yeah our ebrakes are pretty bad lol and my brakes are toast so it would just pull me through the box. However I did throw my slicks on my friends stock blower E85 SS with fresh brakes and it held in the box pretty well and I launched at 4k and bogged a little even, cut a 2.0 60' with boost being limited for the street tires. Ran a 13.4 @106 and the car hadnt been turned off for 3 hours It hated us that day, but his GMPP clutch held up to back to back to back runs. I think he did like 12 runs that day and it never got soft or slipped.

so you actually use the ebrake pop the clutch then get on the brake pedal some? ive thought about doing that because all my buddies in their rwd mustangs and camaros do didnt think that balt would like it too much lol i do have good ebc brakes on my car though since i circle track race as well

perfect is also talking about loading the car at launch, letting the clutch engauge just a hair before letting it drop so that the shock is less on the driveline.

preloading before you launch to save the axles.

Id launch from a bit higher than 3K though. at least 4K would be my suggestion.

Slicks are way better than DR's due to the sidewall giving. no wheel hop, etc. definatley easier on the drivetrain

THIS^ Is right, Ive seen a NON lsd 05 IRL with Huge slicks (255 50 R16) on stock pulley clip a 1.7 60ft. Revved it to like 4-5K and just let the clutch out, was the best launch ive ever seen in an IRL!

Yea ill Prolly try 4k I installed a g85 trans when I did my gmp clutch because on my circle track it made a huge difference. Hoping to cut a 1.7 maybe a 1.6 aiming for low 12s

No I dont get on the brakes like a rwd car, I was just saying how my ebrake doesnt hold me in the box whatsoever

Im sure you could go low 12's with a 60' like that. Last time I was at the track with my stock failing clutch I went 13.0 with a 2.25 60' It was awful not being able to do anything in 1st or shift to 2nd hard, but I trapped 116mph on those big slicks I guess so it wasnt a total waste.

13.0 @ 116 lol you definately had the trap to do it. Ive talked to a few that have run the gmp with no issues so we shall see. Got the car dialed in today found out i had a bad upstream o2 and everytime we would put the car back into closed loop it would get wacky. Running a 11.5 to 11.6 right now according the wideband

Yeah I need a clutch, brakes, and less squat off the line

If your running that AFR now it shouldnt sway far from that since fuel trims basically become inactive at WOT

Yea I'm happy where it is gives me a little window when it really starts cooling off and the car pulls her ass off on the street from a 40 and up she blows the tires off
