MY first Track Day with the SS!!

Ok so me and my cousin went in our SS's!! He ran a 15.4 and i rana 15.8 and the second time a 15.5. I know those are some shitty numbers but hey it was my first time ever going to the track not to mention im still getting use to the car and the clutch. I raced against my cousin the first time and another SS the second time. The chick who drove it works at Super Chips here in orlando and she say they are developing a ecu hack or something for our cars that soppose to open it up more on top of the reflash. I dont know any details about it, but any way IT WAS FUN AS HELL.

Don't feel bad, most of the people that first posted times were in that range. That just means there is room for improvement.

My trick was to roll of the line like you are leaving a street light, then whe the clutch is fully engaged start rolling into the throttle. I don't think I even make it to WOT in first. Then go into second and floor it. Take it to red line and then go to third and floor it. My first run was my worst, I think a 15.1, and that's because I was shifting too early in 2nd and 3rd. (yes I shifted into 4th at 93 mph ) My other two runs were 14.7. This was my first time at the track period.

I hope you gave your car time to break in before taking it to the track!

why? It has 500 miles on it, thats good right?
Besides i drive it pretty hard on the road. I drove the hell out of my LS from the day i got it and never had one problem. That break in stuff are myths.

Why??? Most engine builders will tell you if built right you can rev the crap out of a motor from the start.

Again most engine builders and V8 guys will say if installed correctly no break in needed.
I will say on my end of things I always let a motor break in and a clutch as well. Just stating many people so no need.

Yeah if built right.....They automakers build these engines as quickly as they can. They are built with quality but I'd still have a break in period.

after 500 miles your clutch is broken in, and there is 2 methods to breaking in a motor, WFO right at 1st start or take it easy for 1500 miles or so. although brand new motors in these brand new cars dont require a break in period because the tolerances are so close where as back in the day the motors where loose, thats why newer generation motors can run past 200k and not break a sweat and the gen 1 motors you better be thinking rebuild at 80,000. but beyond all that, those times arent too shabby!! my 1st time in my 97 camaro SS i ran 15 flat but i also had a bad ignition and some other things. im realy hopeing to break 14s my 1st time out with this thing!!

It's all in practice. My first time at the track I ran a 14.7 and I have improved some since. There are basicly 2 keys to a 14 second pass, A) DO NOT DUMP THE CLUTCH, ingauge it normally and then hit the gas, and B) DO NOT SMASH THE THROTTLE TO THE FLOOR, press it about 1/4 of the way, wait for your tires to regain traction, and then press the throttle graudually to redline and shift. WOT the rest of the way down the track after 1st gear. Hope this will help you get that 14 second pass!
