People Running Slicks, Please Chime In

So i just want to get some options from other guys running slicks or drag radials. Last time i was at the track which was my first time i had a tough time hooking up. My best was a 14.0@103mph with a 2.3 60ft. Our track isn't the greatest so i found myself launching my car at like 1250rpm. Otherwise i would roast my tires. I want to go back on the 17th and run a set of drag radials my buddy will lend me. Well he says i'm going to blow my tranny doing so. He launched it pretty hard one time by accident with his high hp turbo LSJ, and it cracked the case halfs on his transmission at the track. Then stripped 3rd gear out more than once during a roll on pull. Anyways he says these transmissions are like glass and i'm going to wreck mine running drag radials. Obviously if i do run them i'm not gonna rev the crap out of it and dump the clutch but just want other opinions on people running slicks. Will my tranmission survive as long as i'm not an idiot launching it? Or should i just stay away?

I just put drag radials on my car tonight and i was beating the **** out of it on the street and my tranny held up just fine. I even e-braked it on dry pavement and was roasting them dragging the ass end..Lol I want to hit the track this week cause i had the same problem anything over 1500 it would roast the tires. it all depends on the psi you run, I dropped down to 15psi and it was hooking up i could actually use the launch control.

Ya my mods are 2.8" pulley, 60's, airbox mod, meth, dual pass, heat exchanger, option b and semi tuned by kennyspec (still more fine tuning needs to be done). Well last time i was at the track it rained for 10 min. The track was better prep'd after the rain then before lol. That gives you a bit of an idea haha

The superchips tune runs full boost 24 in 1st gear on cheap nexon all season tires = no traction.. The drag radials held traction launching @ 4000rpm which is why i'm gonna dd them. Haha

Lower psi? Wouldn't that give me more traction or does that work different with slicks? And EXsoccer i'm set on beating you're highest non E85 whp/trq lol. One can hope haha

most radials hook better on 18-20psi. slicks should be down around 15-16.

go for it lol, bars are set to be raised.. just know that i did it on 91 octane, stock head, stock internals, unported blower, stock 4pass intercooler, only cooling mods were h/e and meth....if you really wanna compare.

Yup i know. The only thing i have different is a dual pass. And option b doesnt really do anything. But i don't have exhaust yet. Still stock. Next year. I'm gonna dyno soon once i'm fully tuned and see where my numbers are at

I'm running them at 30psi DD and they handle pretty good and still have twice the traction

I just got home from the strip for the first time. I was experimenting with different launch rpm's and found slipping the clutch at 4000 with 25 pounds in the Dunlops gage me a 13.81. Also ran a 14.12 and a 14.04. I haven't drag raced in almost 45 years so I'm a little rusty but I think I'll have it in the low 13"s before the end of the season. I'll be working on my driver mods.

I run full slick on stock open diff trans.

2.7" TVS w/ E85, etc.... Have yet to have a drivetrain issue yet. Seen many passes and very hard launches.
