People Running Slicks, Please Chime In
So i just want to get some options from other guys running slicks or drag radials. Last time i was at the track which was my first time i had a tough time hooking up. My best was a 14.0@103mph with a 2.3 60ft. Our track isn't the greatest so i found myself launching my car at like 1250rpm. Otherwise i would roast my tires. I want to go back on the 17th and run a set of drag radials my buddy will lend me. Well he says i'm going to blow my tranny doing so. He launched it pretty hard one time by accident with his high hp turbo LSJ, and it cracked the case halfs on his transmission at the track. Then stripped 3rd gear out more than once during a roll on pull. Anyways he says these transmissions are like glass and i'm going to wreck mine running drag radials. Obviously if i do run them i'm not gonna rev the crap out of it and dump the clutch but just want other opinions on people running slicks. Will my tranmission survive as long as i'm not an idiot launching it? Or should i just stay away?

I just put drag radials on my car tonight and i was beating the **** out of it on the street and my tranny held up just fine. I even e-braked it on dry pavement and was roasting them dragging the ass end..Lol I want to hit the track this week cause i had the same problem anything over 1500 it would roast the tires. it all depends on the psi you run, I dropped down to 15psi and it was hooking up i could actually use the launch control.

go for it lol, bars are set to be raised.. just know that i did it on 91 octane, stock head, stock internals, unported blower, stock 4pass intercooler, only cooling mods were h/e and meth....if you really wanna compare.

most radials hook better on 18-20psi. slicks should be down around 15-16.

I just got home from the strip for the first time. I was experimenting with different launch rpm's and found slipping the clutch at 4000 with 25 pounds in the Dunlops gage me a 13.81. Also ran a 14.12 and a 14.04. I haven't drag raced in almost 45 years so I'm a little rusty but I think I'll have it in the low 13"s before the end of the season. I'll be working on my driver mods.

i ran a 13.5 at 103 with 16in hoosiers slick open dif, the only thing that when bad was my clutch was super over heated and slipped that run could have gone fast but deside to call it quits lol
