Questions on launching and racing???

Hey guys. I just had a few questions about what not to do in drag racing, etc. If I was to go to the track and stage up, would dumping the clutch snap the transaxle? If so, what's best to prevent that? As far as launching goes, smoothly starting at like 5500 should be sufficient? Any mods I should do before going to make good times, mph, etc? My 03 Eclipse was slow as s**t so my 06 SS/SC should definitely surpass it. I just wanna work on the Balt before the track opens up next spring.

And I swear I searched the drag racing forum before I created this thread!

practice practice practice. Practice makes perfection. Take your time and find the sweet spot and launch it then. start off by taking off like its a red-light. then get on it a bit. and keep raising it. if the car hops. let go of the gas. simple.

I wouldn't launch at 5500rpm. You will never get traction unless your running slicks or radials. It will be wheel hop city and that's when you run the risk of breaking your trans or axles.

Thanks guys. Yeah I was trying it out last night lol I went through Hermitage and was kinda toying with the launching a bit, nothing crazy though. Yet did race a Mazdaspeed3 though. He had me on launch but I caught up to him. We started a 35 roll and I managed to stay in front until a car pulled out in front of me

So slicks and maybe a CAI, catback, DP, header, and possibly a tune?

On street tires or drag radials 1800 to 2000rpm feather the clutch out , like pulling away from a light aggressively.
the only time you you want to launch that high is on slicks. These cars have more than enough low end tq.

He probably brake boosted on you then, unless you are bone stock and not GMS2.

Roll race from 40-45mph in second. Work on your 2-3 shift. Roll racing is where the LSJ will shine with the m62.

Dig race I launch it about 3k and feather the throttle to keep as much traction as I can. Then again, I also have a 50% boost cut in first gear so my car does not make boost until the higher RPM of first gear.

Skip the axles.
Buy Napa Gold axles if you end up snapping one.

LNF Shift Tower Bracket to clean up your shift slop.
OTTP Stage 2 Rotated Mounts
Ingalls Torque Dampener for the TAM

The axles on these cars are pretty strong. I never broke a CV shaft on my car. I did break the cup on the passenger side, but it was my fault for cutting a hard turn mid burn out and the CV got pissed. Even then the cup was welded and CV rebuilt.

toyo proxie r888's and practice man. then move on with the power mods.

keep the rear suspension stiff too, keep the car light, and be nimble and quick shifting.

I figured they had pretty good low end torque. Thanks for the tip though. I'll have to remember to try that. Now is that first? Or 2nd?

Im not sure but I cAn almost guarantee that my car is 99% stock. It has an AFR and a volt meter but other than that I have no idea. Bought last week at a dealership. I've noticed the M62 does wonders in a roll race

Thanks man. I heard the axles weren't too resilient when it comes to that stuff. But I have no idea. I'm new

Look at the pulley on the SC.
Is it one big nut or 4-5 small bolts holding it on?

I will when I get off shift tonight. I'm guessing that'll establish whether its stock or not?

Hey I looked it has 4 smaller bolts on the SC pulley. I was also looking at the small model tag underneath it and I think it's a stage 2 GMPP

So yeah not stock has a smaller sc pulley which means it could have more work into it. Or maybe just that pulley !
