Ran the car at an 1/8 mile track!:(

Me and a buddy of mine went to Moorseville Dragstrip lastnight. I ran a 9.57 with a 2.25 60 foot time. First time taking my car up to the strip. I've had the car for about 2 months. As of right now, I have a GM stage 2, air box mod, custom flowmaster exhaust and polyurethane filled motor mounts. I fill I didnt do quite as good as i should have done. The weird thing is that when im on the streets i have absolutely no wheel hop but at the strip i was wheel hopping quite a bit. I need all opinions good and bad about how I did and if you think traction bars will help with the wheel hop issues. Thanks guys.

get your 60' foot times down...... get a torque dampner helps a little....... engine and tranny mounts work better..... that will bring your 60' down

my engine and tranny mounts are filled with polyurethane. they work really good and when i got done with making the mounts, the engine didnt move at all. I know my bad time is because of my take off. I just couldnt get it down and as soon as i staged the lights just started going. They dont even give you enough time to set up. Usually they give you a couple seconds but IDK I guess I will just have to work on the take off. If i get a torque dampener how do you think that will help considering, I dont have no engine movement and I already have the vibes of solid mount.

I ran a 9.5 bone stock in the 1/8th with a 2.2 60ft. you should definitely be faster than a 9.5 with stage 2. What was your mph?

i trapped at 77mph. i know i did terrible. i know i should be in the high 8's or so. it was my first time at the track with this car and this is tricky to launch. way different then other cars when it comes to launching. I know once i get used to launching at the track my times will improve but i didnt have time last night. We got there a 1/2 hour before the track closed and was only able to make 3 runs.

dont feel bad man.
most people dont realise that every track is different,
heat, humidity, altitude, air conditions, track prep, engine temp, intake temp, tire pressure

soooo many things that can alter your performance compared to the exact same car.

your 60fter is pretty good. so your launching well.
just keep practicing, and good for you for doing your racing at the track

When I put my springs and struts it got rid of my wheel hop. I don't know about balts though. Don't worry my first time at the track wasn't very good either. I ran a 9.1 with a 2.2 60' with a 83.7 trap. Usually guys with my mods run mid 8s and 13.5-13.0. It deff. has it in her though.

I ran 9.17 at the local 1/8, car setup just like in my sig. I trap 79.9 as the highest, can't quite break 80 mph, yet. Best 60 ft time so far has been a 2.22, I haven't been back there lately but I'll get it down. I want 8s before I spray the car.

i remember somebody saying the humidity was around 65 or 66 and around 80-82 degrees outside. people said the track was a little slippery but im not experienced enough at the track to say if it was or not. i kept my tire pressure at 35psi and the elevation of the track is 875. imma keep practicing but from now on imma go back up to rockingham, seems like the keep track prepped better and everything seems better there.

drop down to at least 30psi on your track day.
even lower if you want.

I didn't do anything to my tire pressure either. I just pulled up and ran. I had fun racing a lightning with pully, intake, and exhaust. That thing had a CRAZY whine. My biggest prob is second gear. I either spin or part throttle boost, curse this tiny turbo!!!!

I was going to drop it down some but didnt want to catch to good of traction and snap an axle. U know how these axles for our cars are.

yeah i understand man.
if you just wanna go out and have fun, leave them as is and go for it.

I understand not wantin to break anything.
but also keep in mind, alot of axle breaks are due to wheel hop....
and wheel hop is greatly reduced when you get the pressure in the fronts down below 30

i know axles break mainly because of wheel hop and ive solved that greatly with all the mounts. so you think im better off by lowering my psi to say what 25 or so??

i would say just try 30. if your at 35
see how it works for you.

Youll definately find less tendancy to hop, and youll get a better contact patch, and a little more sidewall deflection.

Ive run as low as 24 before, and with a little 1 second burnout, it hooks hard.

I wanted to run my car exactly like I do on the street. I am gonna get some slicks or DRs for my 15s maybe I will run some good times then. I went to WW3 at IRP this year and a redline snaped an axle. I felt bad for him.

It was street tires. Not sure of his mods his first pass was a mid 13. I am looking for a good set of DRs or slicks 225-50-15. I think on good tires it has a mid low 8 trapping at 83-84

that time you got is expected for your first time at the track. no its not good but its your first time. the track is waaaay different than the street. a 9.2 is possible for a stock cobalt, so you just gotta get used to things and go a couple more times. dont worry about winning the race, just practice all the steps and experiment with your car. with traction mods you should be seeing mid to high 8's.
