Ss Vs Si

Just want some input. I have a 06 SS NA cobalt 5 speed, and plan on racing my buddy again. He has a 08 civic Si. We raced once on the street from 15 mph roll. I got a jump about half a car from the go. I hit second before him, 1 second after that all I here is him grinding his gear. So I slow down and say we can do it again later and that was that. Now me and him are going to milan are local track to figure this out. What are my chances? And has anyone with a 2.4 race a newer Si?
Thanks

It will be close! If he's bone stock you stand a chance, if he has any mods it won't be pretty. I've raced several stockers and haven't lost yet to them. But a neighbor has one with an intake and catback and he PWN3S my ass!

Definitely close, but if he drives good he will win. But ask Jackalope. he has a 2.4L sedan, and he has yet to lose to an Si.

Do you have any mods?

ANd BTW....nice color choice on your SS/NA.

His is stock. For me I just bought a nitrous kit, but need a few things before install oh and H&Rs springs. Going to race him without the nitrous though.

hmm.. i raced one from roughly a 20-25 roll. I have a 2.2 it was just about dead even, and i feel if we could have gone from a stop i could have taken him.

it'll be close. I raced an '07 Civic with an intake/cat-back and beat it, so hopefully you'll get the win!

if ur a good driver and know wen nd how to shift u'll win. even tho si's have a little more hp they lose tons of torque in the high rpm range where most honda are said to "kick ass" (yea rite) n e way don't over-rev and keep ur shifts short and sweet and u'll be alrite.

My '07 SS has 32k and climbing (daily drive it about 3 hours round trip a day for work) and is still going strong! Only problem I have is keeping these damn 19"s on.......i've bent one and had a nail in a tire as well........

hey flame away. it is what it is. at the time i had no rear seat, no spare tire/jack, no trunk carpet, carbon fiber hood, CAI, a header, and a catback. he was riding my ass on the highway at about 2 in the morning so i slowed way down so he would pass, and then right when he got beside me he got on it and so did i. i stopped at about 75-80.

I wonder if a auto 2.4 could keep up with a civic si?

yea he babys that car bad and its been in for recalls and other warrenty work, and now the oil leak and he paid 22G for it and its not even the loaded SI. my g5 has 14k on it its been raced at a track thrown on a dyno and has had me learn how to drive 5 speed on it and it hasint had a proplem.

but the SI have good top end just no low end thats where the 2.4 can get it also if you look in a gm book on the 2.4l motor it talks about how things are better on the 2.4 with the vvt then the SI motor

Wait, so first you say you went from a 20 roll. Then you say you were on the freeway and he was tailgating you so he could get by. Why did you slow down to 20 on the freeway? Why would he tailgate you if there was no traffic? And why would a Civic Si tailgate a 2.2L Cobalt going 20mph? Did you really race a Si? To me that makes the story seem fake.

I have ran 3 different Si's now. Two from a dig and one from a 20 roll. They all turn out the same way. I get about 3 lengths on em from the start, and then they pull to about 2-3 lengths by 100.

One of my races I was stripped out just like you were. That was the closest race, and he barely had a car by 100mph. But I also had pulled out the 30lb crossbar under the seats, and I also have a highflow downpipe for a little more extra juice than you. Plus my car is an 07 with more power, and has cams that don't die at 5500rpms.

The only way a bolt on 2.2L will win is if we take him off the line. Its simple really. They have more horsepower, we have more torque. They win quarter mile, we win light to light.

Good driver will beat a civic si.
The civic has decent power, and more than a few have run 14's stock.
That said, most don't have the ***** to drive the car the way it needs to be fast.
The lack of torque makes it a dog to launch if you are tenative.
They are slightly heavier than my rsx stock, and too many of those guys throw
cubic dollars at their stereo first...
