took my TC to the strip

ran a 15 flat lol after many failed attempts with second gear

kept spinning second past redline and it would "lock" me out it would go into second but the clutch wouldn't engage

my final run i got 15.01 @98 with a 2.6 60 foot lol need new tires and need to learn to launch >>

only been driving a stick for 3 weeks

breds2k 10-19-2013 10:46 AM

yuck! Keep working on it. Get it tuned to avoid the torque limiter that you hit making it fall on its face!

Mr Mall Cop 10-19-2013 10:59 AM

You'll get the hang of it

 true story.

OP take it easy on the car learn how to drive the standard before racing it. Find someone local who is willing to help you learn, driving instructions for any racing will save you a lot of problems. If you don't have someone knowledgeable around you there are a few semi decent threads on here about it, but dont try to get the best times ever each run starting out. Learn the tree and get your reaction times down first. Don't try slamming gears till you get the tree and your 60' down, then worry about the time for shifting

maliki778 10-19-2013 11:52 AM

thanks lol ive picked it up quickly i should be ready by next season was granny slipping 1st so i dont hop to bad until and these tires are terrible it has some falken 912s all seasons

07blackg5 10-19-2013 11:52 AM

yeah, get more efficient at driving stick before you start playing race car driver at the track. Your car will thank you

drtibalt 10-19-2013 01:41 PM

Try not using launch control and just launching at 3000, I was able to get decent 60' times , and I'm on shitty tires still

06cobaltncng 10-19-2013 01:50 PM

just curious but what was your 1/8th time?

Sox-Fan 10-19-2013 01:54 PM

drop the tire pressure up front to about 22, launch out at 1800, ease the clutch, and let it roll, then hit it. Shift early. If it's stock then winding it out isn't doing anything for you.

maliki778 10-19-2013 10:46 PM

I'll post shitty slips for people to flame later

just keep practicing. takes time..im.still learning to drive my sc lol. took me forever to get under 10 in the 1/8th.

I dont know what da means much less if my track records it.

CudaJoe 10-23-2013 07:42 AM

OP, the trick to getting a good track time is to not try and kill it off the line. You will spin and spin and spin and everyone will love all the spinning but you will hate it because it means your slow with regards to landing a good time at the strip.

what you need to do is pretend your at a red light and you want to roll of the line rather quickly and follow it up with pacing yourself rolling into the throttle. 2nd gear requires the same treatment but not as much.

Dont use launch control, just rev it to 2400rpms and hold it there and roll off the clutch barely burning it. Dont drop the clutch. ease off it as if your driving normally. Then punch it afterwards in the middle of 2nd gear rpm band.

I dont think dropping the tire pressure is a good idea for street tires. The best traction a street tire gets is at its required psi. Unless he has slicks and I didnt see that.

^ i somewhat agree. i seemded to knock off my best times around 28. 26 seemed to low and unstable at the top end.

BTW throw like 50PSI in the rears.

I had my fronts at 28psi as well when I did a good time and trap. my rears were set near 38-40psi

Unless you are actually competing, SCREW the reaction times.

Take your time at the launch, lower your tire pressure to low 20's, hold it at about 2500-3000 rpms, and work on no just dropping the clutch, but not riding it either. Reaction times don't matter at street legals or test and tunes, and will not affect your overall time. I have time slips with a 2.5 reaction time, but 1.5 60 fts.

if you are stock, don't redline all the gears, as the stock components die out in the higher RPMS.

As a general rule of thumb, every tenth of a second you shave off your 60ft is about two tenths of a second off your overall time. so get your 60ft to a 2.0 and you'll be running low/mid 14's.

If you have any questions post them up, ill help the best I can.

maliki778 10-23-2013 12:48 PM

thanks very helpful after the 3rd run i got the feel for second gear and ive gotten alot better at driving a 5 speed

cluelessk 10-23-2013 01:27 PM

Slow shifts are better then no shifts.

I wrecked my shifter cables shifting like a race car driver. Biggest thing is be relaxed and don't over do it.

CoBOLTingSS 10-23-2013 02:09 PM

Good base number, any videos?

maliki778 10-23-2013 07:54 PM

Nope

BlackielawlessSS 12-04-2013 09:02 PM

I'll admit driving my balt, is totally different then any other standard shift car I have ever owned. Once you get the hang of it, hold on lol.

Shanedude 12-04-2013 09:18 PM

Use launch control I've got some good jumps out of it.
