Your trap speed seems slow...your not shifting 4th Are you? 60ft time should be in the 2.2 to 2.teen something, to achieve a sub par 14.6 et

hmm... odd... maybe shitty track prep... or shifting to early or not fast enough or hitting the limiter....
this is my best of the 4 runs I ever did
(with 2.8 pulley and f'd up tuning)
r/t .494
60'- 2.318
1/8- 9.200
1/8 mph -81.77
1000- 11.781
1/4- 13.945
mph- 103.70
that was also my first run down the track with the car

No I keep it in 3rd the whole time, but I do dump the clutch at 2550 rpm. I dont feather the clutch nor do I let up with the gas...should I be a bit more friendly? Cause I do get mad wheel hop too, but I cant tell if Im spinning or not, my track is pretty good about hooking up...least compared to streets...then again I guess every track is...

Exactly. When I'm staged, I lift on the clutch just enough to where the car is ready to roll forward, and then I hold it there. I'm on dr's so you don't want to hold it at 4K like I do. Hold the rpms at about 1500. On the 3rd yellow, slowly let up on the clutch, and very slowly start adding gas. Continue letting up on the clutch and gradually and slowly giving gas untill the clutch is all the way released, and you're rolling. Don't mash the gas or floor it, just keep the gradual pace untill it's floored, and then shift as fast as you can the rest of the run. Don't hit the rev limiter, and be careful not to miss any shifts. With a 2.0 60', you could have a 14.3X or quicker. Good luck!

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. Your times seem to be in line with others on their first try with a stock car(many people fudge their numbers to make themselves feel better or look better too so you have to take what others claim with a grain of salt). The 2.2 seems to be pretty respectable too. More consistancy will come with more track experience. Forum talk seems to give newbies a false expectation of what they will run- many give up after the first try at the strip. Stick with it and you are sure to improve but don't expect to knock off more than a couple tenths or you will be dissapointed. The MPH is an indication of the cars power and 90MPH is in line with a high 14. Some of the other times I see on forums are from Gtechs and not a real strip time and these will show the MPH much higher than at a strip because of the way that calculate the MPH. Gtech times in my experience should take off 5MPH and add a 1/2 second to the ET and if not done on a perfectly flat road they readings are totally useless. My point with the gtech times are that many fool themselves and others with the results so get fooled into trying to compare your actual strip times to what others claim they did. I also want to add a 14.9 is darn quick and would have wasted many of the fabled muscle cars- I know it would beat my roadrunner.........

i wouldnt suggest slipping the clutch unless you are planning on investing in a new one. just let it out fast but dont mash on the gas until there is no more wheel hop.

Keep practicing. At least you are not some of the poor souls who can't break out of the 15s! Also there is some good advice about your clutch work. Don't dump! My first time at the track I released the clutch then stabbed the gas. This netted me 14.7 after 14.7. Once I started to get a feel for the car I started feathering the clutch in at about 1500 rpm. This is the method that got me my 14.3 and several 14.4s and 14.5s.

POWERSHIFT.

I.e. foot to the floor between shifts, do not let off the gas, tap the clutch and JAM it into the next gear, giving you a satisfying crunch as the dog teeth line up.

I've never tried to powershift. It sounds wayy too brutal for my poor little clutch lol

I also avoid it at all costs. This tranny doesn't feel strong enough to hold up to consistent powershifting.

Some of the best driving I have seen with the cobalt is a spirted but not dump the clutch launch. Wheel hop is no good. Also power shifting is going to **** up your clutch, not saying it's not faster but count on destroying your clutch dumping it and powershifting.

I have been racing my 2005 CobaltSS since I got it with no miles on it. I had the front wheel hop as well until I talked to some tire men and they told me to take my pressure down to 25lbs. That has stopped it for now, just remember to get them aired up before hitting the street again. Want to find some traction bars for the front: that won't impede me.
I was also having some problems with the clutch, as I was trained in DRAG shifting. LOL. I replaced my clutch with one from Clutchmasters down in the states...out of California. They are made for aggressive driving, and that has improved my times and NO slippage as well.
Times for the quarter for me have been averaging 14.3 to a 13.99, but that light was deadly.
Good luck in all your racing.

there are many tricks to racing front wheel drive cars. people have already touched on your clutch usage.... power shifting in my opinion not neccesary.

25 psi is still a littl much for air in the fronts in my opinion. I go dow to 20 on the first run and after the track heats up and get's a little slick take it to 17psi. also when our cars lurch forward a lot of weight comes off the front of the car. put aroun 40-45psi in the rear tires to stiffen it up a bit. I do this with my eibach suspension since adjustable struts still aren't out.

go ahead and do a boosyt bypass mod found in the how to section.

and more but i've got to go.

Preloading the rear suspension works good in my Dodge. It won't let the front lift to much and keeps the weight on the front tires( their is an argument that this can cause traction loss also but in my case it worked fine). Before I got the Quaife(posi unit) I had the car balanced good enough that I had very little wheelspin. Normaly the front right would break loose so I would run lower pressure in the front right. With the posi I can launch at 5K with zero wheelspin- oh yeah that is with slicks. You guy's will be launching at 5K before you know it too .
