What can i expect with DR or Slicks

I am in need of either a set of dr or slicks here for next season. My 60's are always in the 2.0 to 2.1 range on my street tires and the car ran a 13.485@104.1 before i dropped to a 2.8 and 60's with the BYT Retune.

What could i expext to drop with set of dr or slicks at the track.

You should not race your car if you dont expect to break things. Would expect the clutch to go first but its held up really well with only a few slips at the track.

But this was not my questions. Do you even run slicks if so why not post what you shaved going to dr or slicks if not dont post at all.

Was just busting your ***** as well, Really looking for some info on what to expect though.

Dont mind the clutch or axels going either. Just buy new ones and go again. **** the motor can even go then its rebuild time.

unless your pushing a LOT of power, slicks will be easier on your car than street tires and drag radials.

You can tell who has actually raced a FWD on stickies and who hasn't in here.

I don't know where this big misconception came from that slicks breaks the front end.

cause you actually get traction.
if you're smart about it yes you can do it fine you can't just vamp it up to 4, 5k and drop the clutch you may get lucky a few times but ***** gonna snap eventually...slip it out a bit and you'll be better yes.

My 2-step is set at 4k-5k (21-23lbs on TVS) depending on conditions. I side-step the clutch right off the 2-step, no slip. Yes I have an upgraded clutch that bites.

Did all last season and have yet to break.

Just sayin'.

Yeah I hear it I've seen a gmpp clutch in pieces too, it's the gamble you take, could go could hold.
It's like if ya blow 450 through a stock motor, could hold for awhile, it won't last forever.

Did you notice a more consistant time running with the WOTBox? Got one sitting on my desk. I usually launch at 2k at feather it out and get on it.

I agree. I've used slicks and had many, many 5k+ rpms launches with nothing breaking.

I went 13.2@104 on slicks. 1.9 sixty. My slicks were too big for my power level and rubbed my suspension mounts. If you get the right sized slicks, you could easily run a 13.0/12.9 with a 104 trap.

problem is, if you were running 104 before on 2.0 sixties and street tires, then you aren't going to run 104 on slicks. You are probably going to hit like a 13.1/13.2 @ 102/103.

I love the comments everyone always make about breaking stuff on Slicks

Slicks are easier on your Drivetrain then a Drag Radial

Just make sure you have a decent clutch installed as the Tires will grab really hard

Not sure what size rims fit onto a LSJ but check out M&H Slicks

Yeah i am on 18's right now and have no idea what people are running for combos. I dont want to go down to a size where i have to start shaving stuff either. Is there a dr that will fit my 18 inch stock rim or is that a bad idea. Not schooled on the dr slick yet so trying to absorb some knowledge.

Clutch is stock so as soon as it goes i will put it something that can withstand the abuse.

Car is also about to get header and catback put on and retuned again. I would expect it to run a few mph higher and a lower than a 13.4. It was only on 42 and a 2.9 at the time and since have added a 2.8, 60's,mounts, s3 h/e and retuned again.

If you are on the stock clutch, it will slip enough to not worry about breaking anything. Even if you launch high.

This. You are more likely to wheel hop on DR's or street tires and break an axle than snapping one with slicks..Putting a load on the drivetrain helps.

Best bet would be a 15'' wheel with M&H slicks. IIRC all you have to do to fit a 15" wheel on the Lsj is just grind a little off the break caliper..No big deal..

I was hoping to drop to a 16or 17 inch rim to accomplish my goal. At least with a set of DR.
