What do you guys think a stock 06 S/C SS can run-if it's getting the power down?

207GT04, I don't personally know Tofu, but he is a damn good driver (13.5 quarter) and I give props where they're due. Plus, Tofu contributes quite a bit to this site.

To be honest with you, you really can't compare the times like that when they're from two different tracks, two different altitudes, on two different days, with different weather.
Judging by the two mph's, you were in good altitude with good air (density altitude). Unless you're not stock. Just my opinion.

Stock clutch will NEVER hold up to DR's, sorry Kevin

I agree as well, you'll never see a stock (from the a$$embly line) cobalt in the 13's

As for good 60', guy's, it takes ALLOT more than traction to have a good 60'! You have to be making some good low end torque as well or launch at about 4500rpm+ if expect anything south of 1.95!

A 2.0 60ft with perfect shifting could net a 13.9

All this talk about 1.95 or better 60ft time is pretty unrealistic.

Yea, the slick is big even for his power level. I considered running a 9.5" wide slick w/ 400+ whp on tap and decided to stick with the 8.5" wide slick.

I would guess that that size of slick will cost you ~5mph on the top end. Put narrower slicks (~6" wide) on Rob's car and I'd bet you'd see low 13's @ speeds aproaching 110mph, possibly even high 12's.

Unfort because of the 16" wheel limitation there just isn't alot of slicks to choose from.

Here's an example. Awhile back, I was running 13.4's @ 106 w/ drag radials that weren't hooking up. A friend of mine running 26x6" slicks with nearly identical mods was running 13.0's and 12.9's @ 106mph. I bought a set of 26x7.5" slicks, just 1.5" wider and dropped my time to 13.2, but lost 5mph so I was running 13.2@101. The wider slick just hurt my top end as my car really didn't have the power to turn the slicks. And my 60' times weren't any better than my friends, in fact they were a bit worse because I was bogging off the line a bit.

A little FYI, the hoosier tire i'm running has an 8" contact patch, coupled with the narrow 7" rim, it is closer to 7.5" contact patch. The 9.5" is misleading, it is actually the setion width These tires are perfect, just need some mounts to launch harder They look identical in width to the stock tires as well, just allot lighter. I'm teling you guys, the gear spread/gear change rpm drop is killing these cars!

I meant speed, I quoted a post and didn't annotate SPEED thanks for the catch....we are allowed to make mistakes

I know, apples to oranges...I'm not stock and it was a 'loose' comparison. There was another SS/SC with only an Injen and he got a 102 trap. Another difference with the possibilities with weather and track setup. I honestly think that those tires hurt your trap speed. I think it could be higher with a smaller tire. Its a thought or theory and not the 'gospel'. The only way to test this is to be at the same track with identical setup....among other things...hopefully you guys get the picture.

Basically, I think he can get into the 13's with his setup. I know I'll try this weekend along with Kritter and Adam Its close, real close....

I cannot agree more with that statement. I HATE how these cars drop out of their powerband so easily if you don't drive the **** out of it.

this man is correct. it is possible to pull better than a 2.0 60ft. with a fwd car it just takes 1 of 2 things. good low end or launching the **** out of it. I would imagine that with a relatively high launch and the right amount of clutch to accomodate it that he is going to pull some awesome times.

also, the comment about his tires making him loose 5mph, you can't really blame the loss of mph on the tire. the better 60ft. that you get, the better your e.t. but the lower your mph. I know that the better 60ft. sometimes results from upgrading tires, but you can't necessarily blame it all on the tire. Here's an example, My friends '90 300zxtt runs a 12.2 with a 1.9 60ft. at 112mph with hoosier 7.5" slicks. just by turning his 2-step up about 500 rpms resulting in more boost off the line, he cuts a 1.699 60ft. and hits 11.9@106mph.

anyways, go out there and get your 11sec time in your stock motor cobalt. that's what you should name the thread. "Stock Motor Cobalt hits 13's!!!"

That is misleading, but still alot of tire for the power level. I'd run those tires on a car making ~350whp. Basically it is the "street version" of the Hoosier slick that I was running (26x8). I'm moving on the M&H 26x8.5's now, the Hoosiers balled up something fierce the last time I had it out.

I've seen it go both ways when lowering the 60'. I've run 118-119 mph w/ a 2.4 60' and on the same boost level ran 123 w/ a 1.7 60'.

There is no doubt, ask any experienced drag racer, a larger slick will help w/ the launch, but hurt the top end. Otherwise everyone would be running a 33x17" slick. The key is to find the balance, a slick that barely stays hooked on the launch will result in the best ET and MPH.

I also agree that this something that is really hurting our cars. I was excited to see stageII from GM is supposed to increase the red line.

Yeah, I really think the light-weight flywheel from Spec of Fidanza will make a huge difference in helping these cars get back into their powerband quick.
