worst 1st time

was to moroso tonight, first time at the track and my 2.0 ss is stock. so i get there at 4:30, went through tech and then got in line. 2 cars wreck and i didnt make a single pass till 9:30. so i was pissed and figured id make at least 1 pass and go home.
it happened to be against an srt-4 and i started out terribly with a .844 reaction spinning and hopping it seems with my b-woody traction bars and manage a rediculous 2.588 60ft time. but all that isnt even the worst part, i missed 3rd gear and ended up losing with a 15.673 at 94.87 mph. so all i kno is i need a lot more practice and a few more runs i kno i can break 14s

you have the traction bars and still wheel hopped? That doesn't sound good. As far as the driving part goes no big deal. It was your first time at the track with the car. Even seasoned drivers have problems getting good 60's in the SS and everyone misses 3rd from time to time.

on a side note.....where are those SRT thugs who were saying the ss 2.0 cant trap higher than 94mph stock?

Its all good bro, these suckers are hard to launch. just takes some time in the seat to get used to how they take off.

Well, I went on Friday and got 5 runs in before 8pm. Me and my friend left then and were told later that night that it got rained out about 20 mins after we left so we have a free pass next time we go. This was the first time in the ss. First time- 2.339 60, 14.7 @98mph. Last four times everything was the same but kept going down in et. Last and lowest run was 14.4 @99. With a couple more practices I can get maybee a 14 flat. All I have is the AEM intake and Ingalls torque dampener. Also why do you go saturday, and what class do you race in? I always do sportsman because reaction time has no bearing on overall time.

I might be feeling my engine torqueing over rather than my wheels hopping cause when i put lines down there are no skips so now i need some mounts.

the reason i went on saturday is cause i figured there wouldnt be that many people there and there wasnt but ill never go on another make up day
next time ill go on like a wed or fri i do the test and tunes. i just wanted to get one good run before i start modding

Don't get discouraged, you just need some practice. Try leaving the line like you would in normal city driving, just give more gas as the rpm goes up, but just enough so the tires DON'T spin, trust everyone will think i looks so slow but it works. I had guys come up to me at the track saying "you know you should really launch harder your 60ft's must be like 3 seconds" All the time they were in the 2.2x range on the street in the nen

I'll post a vid of one of my runs, you'll see what I mean Meanwhile practice makes perfect.

Here's one of my vids, just remember to take it easy out of the hole, it'll get you 2.2-2.3 60ft's all day long, get that 3rd gear shift and your on your way to some 14.2-14.5@97-99MPH passes and a lot of fun

I roll off the clutch at idle, and gradually add throttle as traction permits. Got me a 2.2 60'. Of course that method only work with mostly stock stuff. I tryed it now with all my mods and I loose traction even at 1/2 throttle, but as long as your only lightly modded I'd say thats the best technique

I disagree on the lightly modded only comment. It will work on any car with any amount of power. If your car bone stock with 220whp can do a 2.2 60ft, then the same car with 300whp or 400whp should be able to do the same 60ft, you just have to figure out a way so you're only using half that power in the first gear or two.

I'm about 50% throttle in first and maybe 70-75% in second gear I don't go all out till third and even then it sometimes just spins, but I'm not stock.

How fast can an srt go in first? I don't know if you have driven an ss s/c and had to deal with the rediculously short first gear (shorter than reverse!!!) but I had no torque reduction at all in first, and was hitting 20 psi! I was breaking the tires loose before the clutch was all the way out!

An SRT will go about 30-33in first, just like the SS S/C. I've driven both cars and yes the first gear gearing is almost identical, with the cobalt having a longer 2nd and 3rd gear. So there's actually nothing rediculous about it, it's like any other car out there. I will stick by the fact that traction is all up to your right foot.

**** then I guess the neon's are geared even shorter than you guys in first trust me street tires+short first gear+400ft lb's of torque is not easy, but I try and make it work

My worst run was like a 15.8. I blew the launch and just put it in thrid and coasted down the track. Ended up in 5 gear. somewhere around 80 mph.

But I had 4 runs in the mid 14s that day. So it wasnt a bad day. Just an aborted run.

My worst was a 20 something. I stalled just after tripping the light with my buddy riding along, then missed 3rd.

See thats the kinda time slip you just throw away and forget about
I like going to the track and sometimes on your tech card theres a space for previous best ET and speed, last time I went I put my previous best ET and speed (14.59 @ 98) and when I ran the announcer said "Wow thats a tremendous improvment" -.4 seconds and +9 mph
