6 speed for us?!?!?!

Ok, I work at abest buy install bay and yesterday I had to put sirius into a brand new 07 saab 9-3 with the 2.0t motor. The car had a 6 speed on the 2.0 liter. Is this a possible swap for us SS/Sc guys?

What would we need in theory, mounts, cables shifter, tranny? Shouldnt need anything ECU wise right?

Whaddya guys think? I know the 06 9-3's came with a 5 speed same as the ss/sc

IMO, the mounts would have to Fabbed unless you feel that they used the same frame..

Fabbing mounts shouldn't be too hard should it?

You can swap the 6 speed in as I have already checked into it. Downside is the price tag if you are buying it from Saab, $13,000.

It is a SAAB tranny, but it still cost less than the 6 speed. Thanks for that price tag Victory. Now I've ruled out that option too.

The 6 speed has been available on the 9-3s for longer then just 07.

And also, I'd try to find one at a junk yard or something. If your serious about getting one, your probably serious about modding as well, so you'll want to have it regeared and built up as well.

What exactly would a 6 speed do for our cars. Is the price worth the small gains? I know for one it does the Camaro SS a great deal because of mpg and power. For our cars I don't see any huge benefits other then highway in 6th gear for mpg. Would also have to shift into 4th gear on drag strip. IMO its best to have 3erd just about run out, or reach its peak right before the 1/4th is over. Anyone else have info on this?

I would love to have a 6th gear just for mpg. Id rather cruise 80 2500 rather than 3000

just an fyi our tranny is a saab unit but it has different gear ratio's from it's saab counterpart. i would imagine that the 6 speed would have to have gear ratios changed in order to make it affective. imho, don't even bother, just stick with the stock tranny.

I agree, the 6th gear would be great for highway cruising..... but i dont know if it would be really worth it, sounds pretty expensive, does anyone know how much power the 6spd can handle?? I believe its also the same tranny in the G6 GTP 6spd.

Interesting post, but I agree with the price and benefits = bad news. However, imgaine how awesome it would be to say you have a Cobalt SS/SC with a 6-speed tranny getting 28-30mpg all the time =D
