Talking 8K shifts....

Whenever the few individuals on this forum who have over the 7K normal redline shift, is it in any way hard to shift? Like the syncros can't keep up or something? I know that my friends' evos sometimes have trouble, just wanting to know what's up.

Thanks.

Yea i have mine at 7.6 and it gets pretty rough shifting.

Im not sure but i wouldnt think that it would matter what RPM its at to shift, as long ast your valve springs (well the whole engine) can take the high RPM it should sift fine.

From what I've been lead to understand... it's not so much as the synchros not meshing... the difference between 7000RPM and 8000RPM isn't really that much in the overall scope of things (It's only 1000RPM any way you look at it).

The problem is that after 7250 or so the valves in the LSJ float... I.E. they can't move fast enough to function properly so everything screws up. If you upgrade your valve trane to handle the load... everything should work just fine.

My redline is 7200 and it is in no way harder to shift at that point.

valvetrain has nothing to do with what the transmission is doing.

I shift at 7400 at the track (1st and 2nd) and I never have problems, well sometimes if I shift too fast into 2nd, but I also granny shift my car

I'm pretty sure he was referring to things going wrong other than the trans pertaining to "other reasons not to do that" (shift at 8Krpms i mean). Valve float happens when there is so much air pressure going through the valves that the valvesprings are not strong enough to close the valves hence why most people get stronger ones when the do a cam(s) swap (larger cams typically run higher rpms).

Hope that clarified a bit for everyone.
